Religione e politica nell’era globale

          Non è in discussione il diritto della Chiesa di partecipare al dibattito pubblico, ma lo Stato deve rimanere laico e le leggi non possono essere conformate alla convinzione di una parte soltanto, ma devono essere per tutti. Si tratta allora di trovare nuovi equilibri tra religione e politica su temi che interessano la dimensione individuale e collettiva delle società del XXI secolo. Bioetica, lotta alla povertà,  sconfitta e superamento della crisi economica, ritorno ad una dimensione valoriale non meramente economicistica ma ispirata soprattutto ai valori: questi alcuni dei temi di un nuovo rapporto tra politica e religione nell’era della globalizzazione. Ogni riduttivismo del fatto religioso – è stato sottolineato – è sbagliato. Anche il mercatismo, ormai giunto alla sua fine, va abbandonato e si deve tornare a parlare di un’economia sociale di mercato per cercare di capire le novità del presente.

          Nelle odierne società multi-etniche e multi-confessionali la religione costituisce un importante fattore di coesione: il cristianesimo con il suo universalismo invita all’apertura e al dialogo e propone valori universali. Al tempo stesso il cristianesimo non è un optional per l’Occidente, ma un investimento per il mondo. Viene ricordato che il mondo globalizzato ha bisogno di un’etica religiosa razionale presente appunto nel cristianesimo: fusione da sempre di sapienza greca e romana.

          Serve una rinnovata idea di rapporto tra laicità e fede religiosa: se da una parte non è più attuale un laicismo di stampo ottocentesco che confini la religione nella sfera privata , dall’altra la Chiesa devono guardarsi da tentazioni di potere e da posizioni puramente egemoniche. In alcuni casi – si è ricordato – la religione non sembra però manifestarsi nel mondo moderno con razionalità armoniosa e come ponte di civiltà. La globalizzazione ha messo in rilievo le diverse identità e ha prodotto il ritorno delle guerre di religione nel cuore dell’Europa. Ecco perché c’è necessità che la fede conviva con lo Stato laico per evitare conflitti.

          Oggi più che mai sul problema delle relazioni tra sfera politica e sfera religiosa vale il criterio di fondo in base al quale trovare una soluzione: ” Rendete a Cesare ciò che è di Cesare e a Dio ciò che è di Dio”. In questa ottica se la Chiesa non può certo sostituirsi allo Stato laico e condurre una battaglia politica deve però spendersi per non restare ai margini nella lotta per la giustizia.
