Institutul Aspen Romania joined in August 2006. Towards the end of 2005, a group of political and business leaders decided Romania was economically and politically mature enough to launch such an Institute, and the resulting organization is proud to share the values and the mission as well as the methodology of the other Aspen Institutes around the world. On December 18, 2006, the inaugural conference was held in Bucharest; discussion on this occasion revolved around “How to succeed in the European Union”.

Institutul Aspen Romania is politically neutral and does not have political party ties.  Its members hold various positions in politics, economics, academia and the media.  They aim to help modernize the country and promote policies which may benefit Romania’s development, especially following to its recent entrance into the European Union.

The Institute’s mission is to launch public debate on new standards of political and economic leadership, along the lines of the universal values shared within the Aspen network.  Special attention is paid to the world of business, with the goal of rendering Romanian enterprise more efficient and better able to compete on the global market.

Stability in the region is also the focus of debate at the events promoted by Institutul Aspen Romania.  South Eastern and Eastern Europe, along with the Caucasus and Central Asia represent strategic areas in the Institute’s activities.  Special attention is dedicated to training new leaders on the Aspen value system with particular regard to rule of law, democracy and economic efficiency.
