The appreciation voiced by Aspen Institute Italia Seminar participants prompted the Institute to increase its professional development offerings with this additional event, which got off the ground in 2013.

Taking its inspiration from the Aspen Institute Italia Seminars held in memory of Ennio Presutti, the Great Conversation takes the shape of a debate on universal issues and values inspired by readings of works by contemporary and classical authors. The aim is to stimulate the kind of in-depth cultural exploration that can generate universal values and ideals capable of inspiring modern, aware leadership. The seminar, which is held in English only, takes the form of a Socratic debate promoted and guided by expert Aspen Institute moderators.

The seminar counted 25 participants from a broad range of geographical, generational and professional provenance. The variety of approaches and points of view promotes the internationalization of business and cultural leadership and sparks debate among different cultures, in an effort to identify and to enhance common ideas, knowledge, skills and interests.
