Governance and leadership in complex organizations

          Globalization of markets and cultures, the rise of new world powers, the rapid progress made in the field of ICT and the continuous growth in efficiency levels in all sectors, favour the growth of new complex organizations in all sectors, from business to politics and society. These require clear and efficient regulations which can guarantee their perfect functioning in an ever changing environment. In this context, human resources are once again the number one asset for every organization intending to compete at an international level. Leaders are a central figure in the complex organization structure and his/her legitimacy is based on management ability, as well as new skills and effectiveness in operating choices based on meritocracy. The meeting also drew attention to how a successful leader must take into account the various inputs which can come from all levels of the organization. What is required nowadays is a structure with set rules, however flexible enough to make quick changes, where there is enough room for the acquirement of new skills in order to face the new challenges that may arise.
