Aspen Institute Italia celebrated 40 years of activity during the 43rd edition of the Aspen Seminars for Leaders, held in the traditional setting of Venice.
The October 2024 edition of the ASL featured five seminars, which were attended by a total of 200 participants from many different countries. Discussion focused on the various political, economic and social themes that are currently dominating debate in Italy and around the world.
The “Future of Democracy” seminar outlined the challenges being faced by democratic systems. Particular attention was given to the technological, social, economic and political transformations in global media outlets.
New technologies and global changes were also the central theme of the international seminar “The myriad faces of AI”. Participants here analyzed prospects and opportunities, as well as risks and concerns, associated with the advent of Artificial Intelligence. They also proposed solutions for closing the gap between Europe and other advanced economies, most importantly the United States.
In “Focus on Industry”, a debate on strategies for boosting economic growth and prosperity through European policies held sway. Europe, in order to ensure its future, is going to have to maintain a solid industrial base, making the most of major manufacturing economies such as Italy’s.
Tourism is one of Italy’s most precious resources. The seminar “Innovation, trends and territory” focused on how best to maximize the country’s vast potential, confronting global trends and domestic structural problems.
Finally, participants in the seminar “Energy, making the transition happen” discussed both Italian and international scenarios. They traced the challenges presented by the processes underway and underscored how the transition is not only necessary but also advantageous for the economy and society both.
