Innovation has had a very strong impact on the world of telecommunications and media, and is profoundly changing the industry. This seminar sought to analyze the consequences of this revolution in order to understand new opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors, and to assess the transformation of individuals and society in an increasingly interconnected future. Web 2.0 is redefining identities and local boundaries and represents a challenge for politics and governments worldwide. This raises the complex and not yet resolved question of possible Internet regulation: the general opinion is that the market will find have to find its own forms of self-regulation, to avoid overly restrictive outside limitations. At the same time, we need to assess the problem of Internet leadership and the role of governments: the state’s fundamental task should not be to manage the Net, but to contribute to the development of an ecosystem that increasingly fosters widespread use of technology and helps overcome the digital divide. Success will come from the market and society as a whole, and not only from technology.
