The Aspen Seminar on Values and Society

For the fifth consecutive year and in collaboration with The Aspen Institute, the Aspen Seminar on Values and Society was held in Italy. Since 1951, this series of seminars, which is conducted in English, has been the widely-acclaimed cornerstone program of the Aspen Institute tradition in the United States. This latest event in the series was aimed at Italian and overseas participants who, through an analysis and discussion of selected readings from classical and contemporary authors, debated the major universal values and their relationship with the burning issues of today.

        The Aspen Seminar

The Aspen Seminar, held in English and in collaboration with The Aspen Institute, followed the same format as the previous session in Como. Participants included Aspen Junior Fellows, Ordinary and Sustaining Members of Aspen Italia, Friends of Aspen and young leaders from several different countries. The varied provenance, age and professions of participants made for a particularly lively discussion. Participants, inspired by the reading of twenty-one different extracts from classic and contemporary texts, focused on universal values and their relationship with modern decision-making.

          The Aspen Seminar

For the second consecutive year, Aspen Italia organized The Aspen Seminar – in English and in collaboration with The Aspen Institute. A key program in the United States, The Aspen Seminar has proved successful on Italian soil as well. Discussion was led by two expert American moderators: Howard Zeiderman, Director Executive of The Aspen Institute Seminar Program and Professor of Philosophy, and Leigh Hafrey, Professor of Ethics at MIT’s Sloan School of Management. The initiative was aimed at young leaders, with various backgrounds.

            The Aspen Institute Executive Seminar

The Executive Seminar – again, in English and in cooperation with The Aspen Institute – followed the same format as that used in Erba a few days earlier. The initiative was organized for the Aspen Junior Fellows, and involved several Sustaining and Ordinary Members, Friends of Aspen and other young leaders from Italy and abroad. The vastly different geographic origins, age and professions of the participants led to a lively discussion.

              The Aspen Institute Executive Seminar

The first Aspen Executive Seminar – held in English and in cooperation with The Aspen Institute – was recently organized in Erba, near Milan. The Executive Seminars are a pivotal program at The Aspen Institute in the US, and they proved a successful venture on Italian soil as well. Two expert American moderators led the discussions: Howard Zeiderman, Director, Executive Seminars at The Aspen Institute and professor of philosophy at a number of American universities and Leigh Hafrey, Professor of Ethics at the Sloan School of Management del Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
