Italian style: luxuries and trends – The spot light of the foreign press was once again trained on made in italy. There were two articles dedicated to Ferrari. The Maranello-based company is planning to raise its investments by 40% (Wall Street Journal, September 10 –Ferrari Plans 40% Rise in Investment *) and to produce new hybrids models following in the wake of the super car “La Ferrari” (Windsor Star, September 10 – Ferrari plans more luxury hybrids).
A good look at the foreign press shows there is interest in luxury design as well as innovation. Design remains the strong point of Italian production, and the Financial Times ( September 6 – Italian industry: A trial of style over substance rests on what people will buy *) discusses how, given the rising costs of raw material, luxury brands are aiming at giving added value to their styling. And there is an article in the Wall Street Journal on Italian style, and particular that of Giovanni Agnelli with an article about the Avvocato, called one of the most stylish men of the 20th century (September 12 – Gianni Agnelli, the Godfather of Style).

Culture: cinema, music, art, cuisine – There was also space for culture, with a great deal of attention paid to the Venice Film Festival with article on the winner of the Golden Lion, the documentary Sacro Gra  (September 8 in Financial Times – Venice Film Festival – Golden LionEl Mundo – El documental italiano ‘Sacro Gra’ gana el León de Oro del Festival de VeneciaLe Soir – Surprise à la Mostra de Venise, le documentaire «Sacro Gra» remporte le Lion d’or), as well as other films such as Ettore Scola’s homage to Federico Fellini (Gulf News, 7 settembre – Federico Fellini honoured at Venice film festival).
Also of interest was an article in the Belgian paper Le Soir dedicated to the music and performance of Enrico Rava, the great old man of European jazz (September 11 – Enrico Rava: « Le tromboniste Gianluca et moi, on a une espèce de télépathie »), while the New York Times visited three quiet museums in Rome: Palazzo Doria Pamphilj, Centrale Montemartini and the Museo delle Anime dei Defunti (September 8 – 3 Quiet Museums in Rome). Finally, The Times wrote about Italian cuisine, revealing the Ten Commandments of the Italian cuilinary arts ( September 9 – Revealed: Italy’s ten (culinary) commandments *).
