Made in Italy Sparkles in emerging markets – It was fashion week in Milan and the foreign press turned its spotlight on Made in Italy brands. As the Financial Times explained (September 20 – Made in Italy tag lures EM consumers*), it isn’t only a question of style. The clothing and accessories sector has withstood the recession and sales continue, thanks to the success that Made in Italy products are having in emerging markets.
But papers abroad also took a good look at the collections collezioni (Financial Times, September 20 – Milan Fashion Week: day one*). The great Gucci was in the New York Times (September 19 – Gucci’s Orgy of Gorgeousness) and the Independent (September 21 – Sexy and practical: can Gucci revive fashion’s fortunes?), while Prada’s Asian reinterpretation was reported by the New York Times and the Washington Post (September 20- Prada deconstructs the kimono and reinterprets Geisha sandal for next summer; Prada Bares Her Soul). The Washington Post website also focused on other brands on the catwalk (September 20 – Emporio breathes youth into spring collection of fluid knitwear, silk tops, soft pants; and Max Mara summer 2013 collection evokes jungle, where foliage prints reveal animalistic spirit). And meanwhile, Roberto Cavalli attracted attention with a store opening in Madrid (with an interview in ABC on September 17 – Roberto Cavalli: «Madrid es la capital de moda del mundo latino») and the excellent forecasts for the market in China (Gulf News, September 17 – Cavalli expects China to bolster luxury market).
Italian lifestyle as seen by the world – Fashion wasn’t the only interest of the foreign press. This week a number of papers ran articles on other facets of Italian living. Le Monde talked about wine, call the Lange production an “Italian miracle” (September 15 – Miracle au pays du nebbiolo). And The Hindu Business Line traveled to Puglia for a discussion of the “philosophical” rhythm of life in Corigliano d’Otranto, another view of “city philosophy” (September 19 – Italian town takes a philosophical view of life*). Finally, in Madrid, ABC recalled the movie “La Dolce Vita” with an exhibit dedicated to Italian films of the ‘50s and ‘60s (September 17- «La Dolce Vita» renace en el Canal*).
