    Economy – Investments take centre stage in the articles that the foreign press dedicates to the Italian economy. Financial Times cites “vaccination success” as the “basis for confidence” allowing Italy to “accelerate out of the pandemic” (October 11 – Investment helps Italy’s economy accelerate out of pandemic). Other news outlets focus on “green” growth plans: both in the automotive industry, where Stellantis will turn the Turin FIAT factory into an “electric car hub” by bringing together the “legendary 500” and the Maserati line (Bloomberg, October 11 – Stellantis to Turn Turin Factory Into an Electric Car Hub; Les Echos, October 11 – Stellantis réorganise sa production dans l’ex-empire Fiat) and in energy, where Snam has launched a programme to support startups working on hydrogen projects as “part of its plans to develop new lines of business” (Reuters, October 11 – Italy’s Snam launches programme to support hydrogen startups). The steel industry is also covered, with an article in Boersen Zeitung emphasizing the Marcegaglia group’s “record revenues,” recounting its strategy of growing via acquisitions (October 8 – Marcegaglia plant Akqui­sitionen*).

    Tourism and Wine & Food – In tourism, The Wall Street Journal pays a visit to a Venice where “visitors are streaming back,” pointing out that now is the time to find “one of the country’s top destinations unusually serene and affordable” (October 12 – Venice Is Open to Tourists—and It’s a Steal). Financial Times goes to Cervinia to recommend a “super-chalet” among 5 “new Alpine retreats” (October 9 – Five new Alpine retreats), and revisits the “restored” gardens of Valsanzibio in the Euganean Hills, dating to the seventeenth century (October 8 – Revisiting the 17th-century Italian garden of Valsanzibio).

    In cuisine, The Wall Street Journal lets readers in on the secret to “pizza at home,” offering the best recipes and tips (October 8 – Secrets to Cooking Pro Pizza at Home: The Best Gear, Recipes and Tricks), while die Zeit provides an autumnal recipe for mushroom carpaccio (October 8 – Champignon-Carpaccio für alle).

    Sports – The New York Times dedicates its “The Saturday Profile” to Lamont Marcell Jacobs, the “surprise” hero of Italian sports, after he became “the world’s fastest man” at the Olympics, taking home two gold medals (October 8  – A Surprise Sports Hero Broadens Italy’s Image of Itself).
