    Economy –The economy and finance articles dedicated to Italian companies are highlighting investment. While Reuters reports on Giochi Preziosi, “Italy’s biggest toy maker” and its plan to list on the stock exchange in the first half of next year (October 4 – Italian toy maker Giochi Preziosi aims to list in first half of 2020: sources), El Mundo interviews Luca Napolitano, manager of Fiat and Abarth for the European, African and Middle Eastern market, in a dialogue outlining the prospects for the brands and the wager on electric mobility (October 8 – Luca Napolitano: “Fiat es una marca que se asocia a la movilidad urbana”). Investments are also making the news for Netflix, the content on demand company that, thanks to an alliance with Mediaset, will be wagering € 200 million on new programmes made in Italy (Les Echos, October 8 – Netflix va investir 200 millions d’euros dans les programmes en Italie*).

    Fashion – Some articles devoted to the fashion industry also have an economic slant: El Pais discusses the future of the Dolce&Gabbana group, an “empire” that bills € 1.4 billion a year and provides jobs for 2,500 people” (October 7 – Dolce&Gabbana ya han decidido quién y cómo heredará su imperio), while the French press analyzes the investments in the luxury holding company Kering which “has inaugurated a giant logistics centre near Padua” to support growth in high-end eyewear (Les Echos, October 5 – Kering s’installe sur le marché des lunettes de luxe*) and which, with the Gucci brand, has just renewed the agreement with the manufacturer Safilo (Le Monde, October 7 – Les lunettes Gucci volent au secours de l’italien Safilo*).

    On the other hand, Le Monde touches all the bases in an interview with Nino Cerruti “patriarch of Italian fashion,” and “one of the most important figures in twentieth-century men’s fashion” (October 5 – Rencontre avec Nino Cerruti, le patriarche de la mode italienne*).

    Culture – In culture, El Mundo interviews Ludovico Einaudi, on the occasion of the presentation in Palermo of his new opera Winter Journey (October 9 – Ludovico Einaudi: “Componer una ópera sobre la inmigración era para mí un deber moral”). Le Monde, on the other hand, covers Giulia Andreani, the “young Venetian painter” and her works on show at a Paris gallery (October 4 – Sélection galerie : Giulia Andreani chez Max Hetzler*), while The Guardian reports on the project by photographer Valeria Luongo, who recounts through images the lives of nuns at a Rome convent (October 7 – Secret life of nuns: a look behind convent walls – a photo essay). Suddeutsche Zeitung also covers photography, with Rome’s Casa del Cinema paying homage to Nicola Scaldini in an exhibition of 50 black and white photos taken in 1962 on the occasion of the film The Leopard (October 6 – October 6, 2019: In der Geschichte verlaufen).

    Lastly, The New York Times dedicates coverage to the memory of Marcello Giordani, a “heartfelt, stalwart” and “inspired” tenor with 240 appearances at the Metropolitan Opera (October 6 –Marcello Giordani, Tenor Who ‘Sang Like a God,’ Dies at 56*).

    Wine & Food – In wine & food, Die Welt visits the Langhe to taste truffles and Barolo (October 5 – Mit Wein brachte es die Region Piemont zu Reichtum), while Der Standard recommends a recipe for “torta dei due colori” (October 8 – Marmorkuchen all’italiana). And while La Presse covers Italian/Tunisian cooperation in the olive oil field (October 4 – Coopération tuniso-italienne- Différentes variétés d’oliviers en Tunisie: Une base de données mise en place), Les Echos discusses the “Italianity” label that a certification company, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, has spearheaded to recognize true Italian restaurants abroad (October 9 – L’Italie lance un label d’« italianité » des restaurants italiens à l’étranger).
