    Economy and finance – Growth strategy and international investments of Italian companies take centre stage this week in the foreign press’s business and finance articles. Reuters devotes its coverage to the $ 4.2 billion that Iveco will be investing globally over the next 5 years (October 11 – CNH’s Iveco unit to invest $4.2 billion globally in next five years) and recounts the acquisition of a majority stake in Mexico’s Red de Carreteras de Occidente by Atlantia, with a € 1.5 billion (October 11 – Atlantia unit to buy 1.5 billion euro majority stake in Mexico’s RCO). El Pais dedicates coverage to the stock-exchange listing of Ferretti, “one of the world’s most emblematic yacht manufacturers,” whose “Ferraris of the sea” have won over even George Clooney (October 13 – Los ‘Ferrari’ del mar que encantan a George Clooney desembarcan en Bolsa), while Handelsblatt interviews Paolo Selva, CEO of Boggi, talking about the brand’s growth on the German market (October 11 –  Diese italienische Modefirma greift Ermenegildo Zegna und Massimo Dutti an). Lastly, Bloomberg Businessweek interviews Andrea Illy, chairman of the Illy Group, on sustainability strategies (October 11- Illy Chairman Talks About Coffee Capsules, Caffeine, and Climate Change*).

    Culture – Several reports cover culture as well: Le Monde casts an eye on the visual arts with the exhibition that Paris’s Musée Jacquemart-André has dedicated to the “Italian treasures” collected by the Alana family, (October 14 – Une exposition sur les trésors italiens de la collection Alana*) and looking back on Ettore Spalletti, a “mould-breaking” painter (October 14 – La mort du peintre Ettore Spalletti*). The French daily also covers cinema, profiling the actor Luca Marinelli, who took honours at the Venice Film Festival and starred in the film Martin Eden (October 14 – Luca Marinelli, le comédien transformiste et habité de « Martin Eden », star en Italie*). This feature film, the result of an “ambitious and scintillating” screenplay, is also covered by Liberation, with an interview of the director Pietro Marcello (October 15 – PIETRO MARCELLO : «IL Y A DANS LE ROMAN UN PRESSENTIMENT DE CE QUE VA ÊTRE LE SIÈCLE»*). The same newspaper also includes an interview with Carlo Ginzburg, a “great Italian intellectual” and one of the “founders of microhistory” (October 10 – Carlo Ginzburg : «Il y a toujours en histoire cette possibilité de l’inattendu»*). And while Sueddeutsche Zeitung relates how pianist Ludovico Einaudi has enchanted audiences in Dresden (October 16 – Pianist Ludovico Einaudi verzaubert Dresdner Publikum), The New York Times devotes an article to the new fresco depicting “gladiators in action” recently discovered in Pompeii (October 11 – New Fresco With Gladiators Discovered in Pompeii*). Lastly, the Tunisian daily La Presse offers the local programme of the Italian Language Week in the World, with theatre, music, and opera (October 16 – Semaine de la langue italienne : Théâtre, musique et opéra au programme).

    Tourism and wine & food – In tourism, Financial Times covers the expansion of Britain’s Rocco Forte as it prepares to open new luxury hotels around the world, “many of which in Italy” (October 13 – Luxury hotel group Rocco Forte readies for big expansion), while The Guardian explains how, with € 3 million, La Rinascente will contribute towards repairing pavement in Rome’s most central tourist thoroughfares (October 11 – Luxury retailer donates €3m for Rome pavement repairs*). The Wall Street Journal, on the other hand, goes “house hunting” in the province of Siena, an “area associated with some of Italy’s most acclaimed wines” (October 16 – House Hunting in Italy—What Goes With Red Wine?; New York Book Editor Lists Her Tuscan Villa*).

    And while Der Standard stays in Tuscany to share the recipe of the traditional “torta della nonna” (October 15 – Torta della Nonna: Toskanische Liebeserklärung), The New York Times devotes coverage to “Pasta Grannies” – a YouTube channel conceived to disseminate and preserve the recipes of Italian grandmothers (October 14 – Hey, Look! Nonna and Her Pasta Are on YouTube*).
