Economy – This week, the reporting in foreign newspapers concentrates on economic and financial news from Italy. Successful strategies are also making the news for Leonardo, the aerospace group that – as Les Echos explains – is carrying out “a spectacular financial restoration” bringing “record economic results” (March 18 – Leonardo opère un spectaculaire redressement financier*). In fashion, Prada is seeing its revenues grow thanks to a “refined digital strategy” (The Washington Post, March 15 – Prada’s revenues buoyed by refined digital strategy*), while Furla, after having “managed to double revenues” in 4 years, is targeting growth to remain independent (The New York Times, March 15 – Italy’s Handbag Maker Furla Spurns Suitors to Stay Solo*).

In the agri-food sector, Der Standard reports on how Illy has purchased British chocolate maker Prestat (March 17 – Illy kauft britischen Schokoladenhersteller Prestat), while Börsen Zeitung describes Ferrero’s plan for investing in the United States market (March 21 – Ferrero plant große Übernahme in USA*). Lastly, the The Washington Post also covers the environmental policies of Eni which aims not only to grow, but also to become carbon neutral by 2030 (March 15 – Italy’s ENI aims to zero carbon footprint upstream by 2030).

Tourism – In tourism reporting, Financial Times covers the “magical chocolate” and the Baroque architecture” of Modica (March 21 – Postcard from . . . Modica) and includes Argentario, Maremma and Val di Noto among its “top” Mediterranean destinations (March 15 – Top Mediterranean escapes). And while El País wonders “why everyone wants to go to Sardinia”, with suggested explanations including its marvellous beaches and “tasty pecorino” (March 21 – ¿Por qué todos quieren ir a Cerdeña?), Der Standard pays a visit to Bologna for the real, “original” recipe of ragù with pancetta and milk (March 16 – Das Original?
