    Culture – Culture takes centre stage in the articles devoted to Italy in international dailies. El País reviews The Game, the latest work by Alessandro Baricco and a “guide to digital civilization” (June 11 – Alessandro Baricco: “Lo nuevo provoca pereza y miedo, es comprensible”), while Le Monde reports on the return to French cinemas of Indian Summer, the film by the “demanding film-maker” Valerio Zurlini (June 12 – Reprise : « Le Professeur », mort à Rimini*). Also in cinema, The New York Times covers the retrospective that New York’s Lincoln Center has dedicated to the “genius” of Ermanno Olmi, a “director who saw poetry in everyday life” (June 12 – How Ermanno Olmi Found Grace in the Daily Labors of Italians). The Tunisian La Presse, on the other hand, reports on the photography exhibit ‘L’Italia vista con occhi tunisini” (“Italy seen with Tunisian eyes”), which will open in Tunis with the collaboration of the local Italian Cultural Institute (June 11 – Exposition «L’Italie vue à travers des yeux tunisiens» : Déambulations photographiques). Another regional newspaper, L’Orient le Jour, emphasizes the cooperation between Italy and Lebanon, in the framework of “common Mediterranean civilization” (June 13 – Marotti : L’Italie demeurera aux côtés du Liban).

    Tourism – In tourism, The Wall Street Journal Magazine recounts the “on the road” journey to Sicily planned by Danish designer Cecile Bahnsen (June 7 – Fashion Designer Cecilie Bahnsen on How to Switch Off in Sicily*), while El País visits Venice to report on the final phase of restoration of the Palazzo delle Procuratie Vecchie, overseen by David Chipperfield (June 12 – Chipperfield saca el bisturí en la plaza de San Marcos).

    Sport – A number of reports are dedicated to sports. Le Monde covers the Italy Women’s National Football Team returning after twenty years to this sport’s “elite” as it competes in the World Cup (July 7 – Coupe du monde féminine 2019 : Italie (groupe C)*), while The New York Times recounts that in the match against Australia, Barbara Bonansea “surprised everyone” by scoring a goal to bring Italy victory (June 9 – Italy Storms Back Into the World Cup, Stunning Australia in Injury Time*). In basketball, on the other hand, El País reports on Ettore Messina, the coach who, after 5 years in the NBA, is returning to Italy to give substance to the “ambitious project” of Olimpia Armani (June 11 – Ettore Messina regresa al baloncesto europeo ‘vestido’ de Armani).

    Food – Food is also covered: while Austria’s Der Standard publishes a recipe for crostata with mascarpone (June 11 – Mascarpone-Holunder-Crostata: Ein Sommerversprechen), Germany’s Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, through the words of ice cream-maker Eugenio Morrone, lists the seven key elements of authentic Italian gelato (June 11 – Das Gelato-Geheimnis). Another German daily, Sueddeutsche Zeitung reviews the restaurant Cucina Corleone in Munich, “a true delight for the eyes and for the palate” (June 12 – Eine wahre Freude für Auge und Gaumen).
