    Economy – New businesses and new markets – it is with these terms that the foreign press is covering the growth of Italian companies this week. The Wall Street Journal, interviews Andrea Illy on the coffee brand’s expansion strategies in the United States (June 12 –Italy’s Illycaffè Sets Its Sights on the U.S. Coffee Market), while numerous outlets cover Ferrari’s fashion debut (Bloomberg, June 14 – Ferrari’s First Runway Show Debuts on Maranello Production Line): “an ambitious and well-financed attempt to transform the brand from a luxury automotive company into a luxury lifestyle name that will serve as an avatar of Italian aesthetics to the world” (The New York Times, June 16 – Ferrari Is Racing Into Fashion*; Financial Times, June 11 – Ferrari races into high fashion*), but also a strategy to grow closer to the young and female public (El País, June 14 – El futuro de Ferrari empieza con una colección de moda). Le Monde also covers “the Franco-Italian honeymoon” with the celebration of the economic Forum attended by companies and social partners (June 12 – Un Forum économique en pleine lune de miel franco-italienne*), while La Presse emphasizes the steps forward in cooperation between Italy and Tunisia (June 16 – L’Italie accord un prêt de 200 millions d’euros à la Tunisie).

    Culture – In culture, The Guardian covers the discovery of a “miniature Pompeii” in Verona (June 15 – ‘Miniature Pompeii’ found beneath former cinema in Verona), while Reuters reports on how a copy of the Divine Comedy, inscribed on sheets of titanium and gold, will be sent to space, to “float in the heavens among the stars that Dante wrote about” (June 10 – Dante’s Divine Comedy to float among the stars). Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung also discusses the “fascination” of the Divine Comedy in a feuilleton recounting the attention with which Sigmund Freud read the verses by Italy’s sommo poeta (June 14 – Psychoanalyse als Untrweltreise).

    Meanwhile, Financial Times, in its guide to Rome, offers a tour of the locations that made cinema history: from Piazza di Spagna to the Tiber, and the streets that travelled by Nanni Moretti on his Vespa (June 14 – Cultural close-up: a tour of movie locations in central Rome*)

    Music is also covered, with an interview with Maneskin, who have two singles in the UK chart (The Guardian, June 10 – Eurovision winners Måneskin: ‘Cocaine? Damiano barely drinks beer!’).

    Design and lifestyle – Many reports also deal with design and lifestyle. Financial Times covers the initiative of Michele De Lucchi who, along with other designers, is collaborating with Shanghai Stellar Works to create “furniture where craft meets mass production” (June 11 – Shanghai via Milan: creating furniture where craft meets mass production*). The British daily continues with interior design, with the restoration of Villa Igea, a hotel that “adds new magic” to Palermo (June 11 – Palermo grande: a stunning hotel restoration unveils Sicily’s hidden gem*). Meanwhile, The New York Times pays a visit to Sardinia to cover a growing real estate market buoyed by vacationers and investors (1June 16 – House Hunting in Italy: Sitting Seaside on Sardinia for $760,000). The American daily’s Style Magazine then goes on to Rome to visit the home of one of the leading exponents of Futurism, Giacomo Balla, whose apartment open to the public is “proof of his idea that art should live in all things” (June 11 – In Rome, an Apartment Rich in Color and History Opens to the Public*). Lastly, El País covers the Farnesina Verde project, with which the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs aims to renovate its locations around the world: in Madrid, the ”iconic Italian embassy” will have new apartments with solar panels and ultra-low energy consumption (June 12 – La ‘Ambasciata’ quiere tener pisos ecológicos).

    Sports – The international dailies also celebrate Italy’s making it through the knockout round at Euro2020 (in Die Zeit June 16 and 17 – : Italien zieht als erste Mannschaft ins Achtelfinale ein e Vom Zuschauer zum Machtwinner: Locatelli trifft doppelt), after the latest game against Switzerland (Die Welt, June 16 – Achtelfinale gesichert! ITalien schlägt die Schweiz souverän ; Xinhua, June 17 – Roundup: Italy first team to progress at Euro 2020, Wales edge Turkey), in which the national team led by Mancini impressed again (Italy impress again in 3-0 win over Switzerland at Euro 2020). Lastly, Le Monde covers “nostalgia for 1990s football” with a review of the Netflix series dedicated to Roberto Baggio, the “eternal star” of the Azzurri (June 11 – Roberto Baggio, star éternelle de l’Italie*).
