Farewell to an automotive legend – The foreign press has cast the spotlight on the final farewell to Sergio Marchionne. In numerous articles dedicated to the FCA executive, Marchionne is remembered as a “legend” (a term appearing on July 25 in Financial TimesFiat Chrysler’s Sergio Marchionne dies: legacy of a car legend*; HandelsblattFiat-Chrysler trauert um Manager-Legende Sergio Marchionne*; Sueddeutsche ZeitungSchatten über Fiat Chrysler: Ex-Chef Marchionne tot and Der Standard – Ehemaliger Fiat-Chef Sergio Marchionne gestorben); as a “wise” and “fearless” executive (Financial Times, July 25 – Sergio Marchionne, Fiat’s fearless saviour, 1952-2018*) who transformed Fiat-Chrysler into a “profit engine,” becoming “a star of the auto industry” (The Wall Street Journal, July 25 – Sergio Marchionne Turned Two Ailing Car Makers Into a Profit Engine). Other articles speak of this “visionary manager” (New York Times, July 23 – Fiat Chrysler Is Shaken Without Visionary CEO Behind Wheel*) who “liked to fix things” (Reuters, July 22 – Illness ends career of Sergio Marchionne, the CEO who liked to fix thing), becoming the Agnelli family’s “magician” (Les Echos, July 23 – Le magicien du clan Agnelli*) in the “spectacular relaunch” of Fiat (Le Monde, July 26 – Mort du patron de Fiat Sergio Marchionne), whose shares, under his guidance, “boosted Fiat’s share value by more than 10 times” (The Guardian, July 25 – Sergio Marchionne obituary).
For these and other results, the operations done by Marchionne, “an icon in the auto industry,” are “studied in business schools around the world” (Expansión, July 26 – Muere Marchionne, el exconsejero delegado de FCA que sacó de la crisis a Fiat).

The “first major champion” in golf – The international dailies are also devoting coverage to Francesco Molinari’s victory in the British Open: a success, as many media outlets in the English-speaking world explain, that has seen Molinari “emerge” among the “stars” in this sport, the “first major champion” in the speciality (July 22 in ReutersMolinari wins Open to become Italy’s first major champion; New York TimesFrancesco Molinari, in a First for Italy, Wins the British Open* e Wall Street JournalFrancesco Molinari Wins the British Open*).

Tourism and lifestyle –Summer provides an occasion for various international media outlets to concentrate on Italian lifestyle in an account of the Belpaese that brings together tourism, luxury, fun, and culture. El Pais pays a visit to Venice to cover the “symposium” that the Biennale had with specialists in the various performing arts (July 24 – ¿Hay ya diferencias entre la danza y el teatro?). By the lagoon, The Guardian seeks the origins of the success of the Spritz, which has become the “drink of the summer” (July 26 – Greatest spritz: how a Venetian aperitif became the drink of the summer), while Reuters and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung visit Castelluccio, for the “natural spectacle” offered by a flowering of cornflowers and daisies (July 24 – Wild flowers turn Italian plain into impressionist masterpiece; Dieses Blumenspektakel lockt tausende Besucher an). More off the beaten path is the journey Les Echos makes to the home of Gianni Bellini, “the world’s greatest collector of football trading card albums” ( July 23 – Près du fief de Panini, le plus grand collectionneur d’albums de foot au monde).
Lifestyle proceeds hand in hand with luxury: Bloomberg interviews Achille Salvagni, designer of interiors for “Multimillion-Dollar Superyachts” (July 24 – How to Design the Lavish Interiors of Multimillion-Dollar Superyachts), while Les Echos explains how the great brands in Italian-made quality are wagering on online sales to conquer millennials (July 24 – Le luxe italien met le turbo sur le numérique pour mieux servir les Millennials).
Lastly, there is no shortage of culinary reports, with a “seafaring” recipe like spaghetti with mussels (Der Standard, July 24 – Spaghetti con Cozze: Maritime Pasta mit Miesmuscheln und Tomaten).
