    Italian business worldwide – Last week, the foreign press turned its attention to the strategies for international development of some Italian businesses. The first was Enel which, according to Bloomberg Businessweek, is about to invest 900 million euro to export its know how in geothermic energy to places from Turkey to Peru (July 18 –
    Enel Backs Geothermal in Race for World’s Cheapest Power: Energy
    ). Instead, the Indian daily Economic Times wrote about the leather goods designer Furla, about to have a growth spurt on the Indian market  (July 18 – Italian Luxury Brand Furla to Ride a Superfast in India) while Brazil’s Folha de S. Paulo ran an article about Benelli, which will soon be producing motorcycles in that South American country (July 14 –Italiana Benelli produzirá motos no Brasil).

    In addition, the Spanish paper El Pais examined the first Chinese edition of theMICAM, the international footwear exhibition which was started in Milan (July 19 – España, Brasil y Portugal estarán en la edición china de la feria de calzado MICAM), and the Financial Times interviewed Emma Marcegaglia, the new president of Business Europe (July 14 –Emma Marcegaglia, Business Europe president *).

    Culture and lifestyle: tourism and fine cuisine – As always during the summer, the lights are shining on Italian offers of culture and tourism. The New York Times suggested three excursions: one to the Rome Ghetto (July 14 –Echoes From the Roman Ghetto), and two others in Alto Adige (July 16 – In the Dolomites, New Hut-to-Hut Trips for Skiers; July 18 –Ancient Turf, Rotten Wood, Killer Views). And the Spanish paper Expansion published an interview with director Francis Ford Coppola, who has decided to return to his Italian roots, investing in a new hotel in Bernalda, in the province of Matera (July 16 –Coppola: “Abro hoteles por amor, no por razones inteligentes”). Finally, the New York Times explored popular cuisine, with a story on porchetta (pork), a delicacy in central Italy (July 17 – This Little Piggy Took a Shortcut: Porchetta, the Quick Way).

    Last but not least on the cultural scene, the Times of London published a review of the new English edition of the Divine Comedy (Jully 13 – Dante: The Divine Comedy, by Clive James *).
