“Asia at the forefront of the green economy” – Interview with Edoardo Magnone

    Investment in research for new environmental technologies is not only needed to improve energy efficiency and reduce polluting emissions, but it also serves as an important indicator of economic growth. This is the case with the Asian countries, and could be for Italy, which – given the high standard of its graduates – should be doing more to capitalize on the work of its researchers. In the interview below, Edoardo Magnone, a member of Aspen Italia’s “Italian talent abroad” group, describes his experiences of working in the field of new energy research, first in Japan and now in Korea.

              Aspen and the White Paper on Innovation: kick-starting Italy with start-ups. Interview with Monica Beltrametti and Stefano Scarpetta

                It was in the firm conviction that innovation holds the key to improving Italy’s competitiveness that several members of Aspen Institute Italia’s “Italian talent abroad” community formed a working group. The group’s efforts translated into a White Paper that has since led to the launch of a concrete project dedicated to start-ups.

                    The week of February 23 – March 1

                      Italy and post-election scenarios – Italy’s elections, with the non-victory of the center-left, suprising growth of the 5 Stars Movement and the revival of the center-right, attracted the attention of the major papers of the foreign press. There were numerous reports and comments, all in an attempt to understand the lessons to be learned from the results of the elections. Their primary concern was explaining and listing the possible outcomes of the elections.

                                      Monitoring period from December 1, 2012 – January 31, 2013

                                        Studies by Italian researchers were published in the fields of oncology and genetics in December 2012 and January 2013. Monitoring of international scientific journals ScienceLancet and the journals of the group Nature) found 32 studies by Italian research teams published in January and 17 in December. As usual, there was a prevalence of studies in oncology, with 10 published in Leukemia, Oncogene, Lancet Oncology, and the British Journal of Cancer by 97 researchers in 13 Italian centers.
