The face of the new Italy – New districts, recently opened art galleries, a crowded calendar of events: Milan regales international tourists with a host of novelties introduced in occasion of Expo.
During this two-month period, the work of Italian researchers and laboratories published in international scientific journals mostly centered on the fields of neuroscience and oncology. Monitoring of the scientific press (including Science, The Lancet and various journals of the Nature publishing group) revealed that 102 studies conducted by or involving Italian laboratories were published between the beginning of March and the end of April.
Expo 2015: Feeding the planet, stimulating the economy – Visits to the pavilions, in-depth looks at the exposition and tourist suggestion at its margins. The foreign press continues to report on Expo 2015 with numerous articles.
In Milan for Expo – Expo is here, and last week the foreign press continued to give its readers suggestions for things to see at the margin of the Universal Exposition. As the Washington Post explained, Milan has done itself up for the occasion, with the hope of attracting 20 million visitors (April 24 – Milan spiffs up for Expo 2015). International papers have a treasure house of ideas.
Tourism and art – It might be the approaching Expo – recently under the spotlight of the foreign press – or the coming summer weather that traditionally leads to more articles about trips to the Belpaese, but last week there was an increase to the already rich offering of travel advice to readers of the foreign press.
New signs of recovery – The economy recovery is getting stronger. According to the foreign press, there are numerous positive signals that demonstrate that Italy is on the road to growth.
Recovery and the virtuous circle of investments – The foreign press has been reporting that economic forecasts for Italy are improving and that the country is preparing to put the recession behind (April 7 on Financial Times – Italy upgrades economic forecasts and Wall Street Journal –
Venice’s Oriental pull endures, with 4 million Chinese visitors expected during Expo During this monitoring period, the work of Italian researchers and laboratories published in international scientific journals mostly centered on the fields of biology, genetics and oncology. Monitoring of the scientific press (including Science, The Lancet and various journals of the Nature publishing group) revealed that 95 studies conducted by Italian laboratories were published between the beginning of January and the end of February. The country that Chinese investors prefer – Pirelli but not only. The 7.1 billion euro deal marking ChemChina’s entry into the capital of the history Milan-based company obviously turned the spotlight of the foreign press. Startups can thrive in Italy too, provided extra steps are taken to create favorable conditions for aspiring entrepreneurs, including abiding by rules, adopting technology, and cutting down on red tape. In the following interview with the Aspen Italia website team, Christian Oddono, who has opened a chain of quality Italian gelaterias in London, shares his experience of setting up a business in the UK, explaining that the key to turning the tide on the creation of a startup-friendly environment is stepping up the roll-out of e-government services. Economy – Italy’s economic propspects are improving and, as Les Echos explained last week, Rome might raise its estimates for the growth of the GDP (March 16 – L’Italie va revoir en hausse sa prévision de croissance-source). Luxury items and lifestyle: financial results – This is a time when many companies are announcing their yearly financial results and the foreign press showed an interest last week in luxury items and lifestyle. Fashion Week – As always, Milan Fashion week was the subject of a number of articles in the foreign press. Economy recovery and investments – The Italian economy is recovering and the number of foreign companies investing in Italy, as well as Italian investments abroad, are growing. The accident at Fukushima has not plunged the atomic energy industry into crisis. On the contrary, the number of nuclear plants under construction around the world is reaching never-before-seen levels. The nuclear deal only recently struck between the US and India shows a renewed interest in this form of energy supply. The events in Japan, however, still raise questions about safety in the event of major natural disasters. This is in part why an MIT team, led by Jacopo Buongiorno, is studying the possibility of putting reactors on offshore platforms. Unprecedented signs of recovery – There is a concentration of positive news for Italy, a mixutre of external and internal factors that show unprecedented signs of recovery. “Italy has a new president” – The clearest headline was undoubtedly that of Time (Italy Has a New President) but numerous foreign papers reported the news on January 31 that Sergio Mattarella had been elected to the Quirinale. Prospects for recovery – The ECB’s Quantitative Easing could help the Italian economy. It was the Financial Times that explained hopes for recovery, starting from the vinyards of Trebbiano in Abruzzo (January 23 – Draghi’s bond buying gives cheer for Abruzzo vineyard*). The CEO of Intesa Sanpaolo shares that optimism.Foreign Press – Commentaries
