The work of Italian researchers and laboratories appearing in international scientific journals between the beginning of September and the end of October was concentrated on the fields of oncology and biology. Monitoring of the scientific press (including titles such as Science, The Lancet, and the various journals of the Nature group) revealed 113 studies conducted by Italian laboratories were published during this period.
Of these, 10 articles on research into cancer appeared in the pages of Leukemia, Oncogene, and the British Journal of Cancer, while 8 studies on biology were picked up by Cell Death & Disease and Nature Cell Biology.
Finally, in the area of biology, readers’ attention is drawn to the interview with Paolo Sassone-Corsi made available on the Aspen Italia website. A professor of Biological Chemistry at the University of California, Irvine, Sassone-Corsi explains how his research is exploring the molecular mechanisms that link the day/night cycle and nutrition to cellular metabolism, and, hence, to epigenetics. These studies, of medical and social significance, are enabling the development of new pharmacological strategies for diabetes, obesity, metabolic syndromes, and drug addiction.
