In November and December, oncology and genetics were the fields most represented in papers by Italian researchers published in the leading international scientific journals. Of the 102 studies (by 551 researchers across 143 national research centers) that were picked up during this period, 15 were cancer-related (involving the work of 150 researchers at 27 centers), with articles appearing in specialized journals of the Nature group, including Leukemia, the British Journal of Cancer, and Oncogene, while 6 concerned genetics, with publications in the European Journal of Human Genetics and Gene Therapy.
Readers’ attention is also drawn to the interview with Jacopo Buongiorno, Associate Professor of Nuclear Science and Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) since 2004. In conversation with the Aspen Italia website team, Buongiorno explained the future prospects for atomic energy in the wake of the Fukushima incident.
