This summer, much of the work of Italian researchers and laboratories published in international scientific journals centered on the field of oncology. Monitoring of the scientific press (including Science, The Lancet and various journals of the Nature group) revealed that 82 studies conducted by Italian laboratories were published between the beginning of July and the end of August. Of these, 25 focused on research into cancer, with related articles appearing in the pages of Leukemia, Oncogene, The Lancet Oncology, the British Journal of Cancer, and Cell Death & Disease, involving the work of 221 researchers across 25 Italian research centers.
In terms of Italian contributions in the field of applied chemistry, readers’ attention is drawn to the interview with Francesca Casadio, Andrew W. Mellon Senior Conservation Scientist at the Art Institute of Chicago, where in 2003 she established an art conservation science laboratory that she continues to head. In conversation with the Aspen Italia website team, Casadio explains what has led a chemist by training to also take on the role of art “detective”.
