In April, oncology and genetics were the fields most represented in papers by Italian researchers published in leading international scientific journals. Indeed, of the 30 studies (by 200 scholars across 58 national research centers) that were picked up during this period, 5 dealt with cancer (involving 57 researchers at 5 centers), with related articles appearing in specialized journals of the Nature group, including Leukemia, the British Journal of Cancer, and Prostate Cancer; while 3 concerned genetics, with publications in The Pharmacogenomics Journal and Heredity (involving the work of 27 scholars at 3 centers).
Readers’ attention is also drawn to the interview with Roberto Tamai, Program Manager for the European Extremely Large Telescope (or E-ELT), a telescope with a primary mirror diameter of 39 meters being built by the European Southern Observatory (ESO) in the Atacama Desert in Chile. Speaking to the Aspen Italia website team, Tamai explained what the future holds for the project, which has been designed to look for signs of life similar to those present on Earth.
