Monitoring of the leading international scientific journals (Science, Nature, PNAS-Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, National Science Review and Scientific Reports, placed by SCImago Journal Rank in the top 5 for scientific impact) yielded no fewer than 15 studies dedicated to medicine – with a particular focus on oncology – published in Scientific Reports, with the contribution of the Universities of Palermo, Roma (Sapienza), Naples Federico II, as well as CNR in Palermo, the University of Trento Centre for Computational and Systems Biology (COSBI), and the Laboratory of Molecular Cancer Genetics, Department CIBIO, also at the University of Trent.

In chemistry, 3 studies appeared in Scientific Reports, with a particular focus on biochemistry. In this area, research involved the University of Brescia and CNR in Milan, as well as Sapienza University of Rome and the Universities of Salento and Piemonte Orientale.
