Medicine, biology and materials science are the disciplines that featured most in articles by Italian researchers and laboratories published in international magazines in March. Monitoring leading international scientific journals (Science, Nature, PNAS-Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, National Science Review and Scientific Reports rated as the top 5 in terms of their impact on the world of Science by SC Imago Journal Rankings) revealed 11 articles involving18 different research centers.

The news section of Nature wrote about the latest discoveries on dark-matter made by the Italian-Chinese team of DAMA researchers  who presented their results at the Gran Sasso national laboratories  on March 26  (Nature, March 28 – Beguiling dark-matter signal persists 20 years on). Another article in the same magazine described the results regarding extreme meteorological phenomena analyzed by the European Joint Research Centre in Ispra (March 7 – Attack of the extreme floods).

PNAS focused on medicine, with two oncological studies carried out by researchers at the IRCCS Regina Elena from the Higher Institute for Health and Rome’s Catholic University and it also involved the universities of Siena and Brescia. The US Academy’s magazine also published an article about an international nutritional study in which Bioversity International from Maccarese was involved.

Two further reports published by PNAS were dedicated to biological research carried out by the IRCCS San Raffaele in Milan, IRCCS Multimedica, the University of Salerno, IRCCS Bambino Gesù  in Rome as well as the University of Milan and the CNR (the National Research Council), whilst physics and material sciences featured in Science in an article that described two studies carried out by the University of Trieste, the CNR and Turin Polytechnic.
