Italian hi-tech industry: the case of life sciences

Italy’s healthcare sector invoices 43 billion euros, the equivalent of 4.2% of all manufacturing, and exports up to 23 billion, or more than 6% of the country’s total exports. In regards to innovation, the sector is also very relevant both in terms of research and development (14.2% of the total) and patents (21.5%).
