Assessing risk: business in global disorder

Geopolitical risk assessment is becoming crucial in our increasingly interconnected world. The global financial crisis, the Arab spring and political crises in various regions tell us that the situation in any given country can deteriorate quite easily and extremely rapidly, triggering a domino effect in the rest of the world. Security issues are damaging economic prospects and enforcing complicated compromises. Partly as a result of the growing globalization of trade and finance, and partly as a result of a given state’s weakness (or downright failure in certain regions), enhanced assessment of political risk has become essential in the international economic scenario. In the course of a cycle of encounters devoted to this issue, an analysis of current risks and of their implications for business – from the multinational corporation to the small and medium-sized enterprise – Aspen Italia explores and discusses the opportunities that can be seized by acquiring information and by trading ideas and experience.
