    Economy– The economic news takes centre stage with investments and extraordinary operations: The Wall Street Journal recounts the history of the Fiat, Chrysler, and Peugeot brands, which have just created Stellantis (January 15 – Fiats, Chryslers and Peugeots Over the Decades*), while the Moroccan daily Le Matin points out that the merger between FCA and PSA will bring about the “world’s fourth largest automotive group (January 16 – Stellantis: Peugeot et Fiat se marient pour former le 4e groupe mondial). Reuters, on the other hand, focuses on two investments in logistics: the one by Poste italiane which is buying 51% of China’s Sengi Express (January 20 – Italy’s Poste Italiane to buy 51% of China’s Sengi Express), and the one by Amazon which is to open two hubs in Italy, in Novara and Modena, wagering € 230 million and creating 1,100 jobs (January 18 – Amazon to open two new hubs in Italy this year).

    Culture – In culture, The Wall Street Journal proposes an interactive tour of the Vatican Museums, allowing readers “to experience the Sistine Chapel and other Renaissance treasures without the crowds” (January 20 – Abroad at Home: Virtual Vatican), while Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung covers the homage to Pompeii by German historian Ferdinand Gregorius, who wrote the poem Euphorion dedicated to “the city buried by lava” (January 18 – Hinter ihm brennt die Stadt). And Le Monde reviews the book by historian Gabriela Trujillo dedicated to Marco Ferreri “the protean Milanese filmmaker” (January 19 – « Marco Ferreri. Le cinéma ne sert à rien » : plongée dans l’œuvre d’un génie rabelaisien et provocateur iconoclaste*).

    Lastly, La Presse emphasizes the importance of Italian language and culture, recounting that Tunisia’s first printed newspaper was Italian (January 17 – Saviez-vous que le premier journal imprimé en Tunisie était en langue italienne).

    Fashion – Numerous reports come from the fashion world, in correspondence with the presentation of the men’s collections: The Guardian recounts the online show in which Miuccia Prada and Raf Simons presented the Milanese brand’s offerings (January 17 – Long johns for Prada as Milan fashion week goes online), while The New York Times publishes an exclusive interview with the two stylists discussing their joint debut in men’s wear (January 15 – When Raf Met Miuccia*). Other articles are devoted to the offerings by Fendi “focusing on lockdown comfort” (The Guardian, January 17 – Fashion goes soft as Fendi turns boots into slippers) and to those by Brunello Cucinelli, a major figure in Pitti Uomo’s first online edition (L’Orient Le Jour, January 18 – Pitti Uomo s’ouvre en digital à Solomeo, au siège de Brunello Cucinelli).

    Wine & food– In wine & food coverage, Financial Times adds a new article to the FT Globetrotter guide dedicated to Rome, with the best bars and restaurants recommended by readers (January 19 – FT readers: where to wine and dine in Rome*). The New York Times, on the other hand, celebrates “the gift of simplicity” of Montepulciano d’Abruzzo (January 15 – In Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, the Gifts of Simplicity), while Der Standard visits Umbria to recount a culinary tradition of Assisi: “Saint Anthony’s meatballs” (January 19 – Fleischbällchen nach Sant’Antonio Abate).
