    Fashion – Fashion has no fear of coronavirus. Foreign correspondents at the shows in Milan report on the collections and the success of brands representing a genuine “growth engine,” as Financial Times defines Bottega Veneta (February 24 – In Milan, it was bags versus the coronavirus*). The Spanish press covers Giorgio Armani “the last emperor of elegance” who “avoids ephemeral trends” (El Mundo, February 22 – Giorgio Armani, el último emperador de la elegancia) and who staged his show behind closed doors “in order to safeguard the invitees’ well-being” (February 23 in El MundoArmani celebra su desfile en Milán a puerta cerrada, sin invitados, por el coronavirus; El PaisArmani realiza a puerta cerrada su desfile en la semana de la moda de Milán por el coronavirus; Frankfurter Allgemeine ZeitungArmani-Schau in Mailand findet ohne Zuschauer statt).

    El Pais also reports on Versace, who “celebrates excess without remorse” (February 21 – Versace celebra el exceso sin remordimientos), while Le Monde covers Prada’s new co-creative director Raf Simons (February 24 – Mode : Miuccia Prada et Raf Simons, l’union inattendue*).

    Culture – Culture also makes the news with the discovery, in the Colosseum’s archaeological park, of what might be the tomb of Romulus (Les Echos, 23 February – Italie : le tombeau de Romulus, fondateur de Rome, a-t-il été découvert ?*), and in cinema, El Mundo and Sueddeutsche Zeitung recount how Roberto Benigni joined director Matteo Garrone in presenting the film Pinocchio at the Berlin International Film Festival (February – Benigni y Garrone: “La mentira es un tema marginal en ‘Pinocho'”; February 23 – Roberto Benig24 ni auf der Berlinale).

    Another German daily, Die Zeit, covers literature with Antonio Scurati and his novel Il figlio del secolo, the first of a trilogy analyzing the figure of Mussolini (February 25 – Womit alles begann*)

    Tourism and wine & food – In tourism, El Pais travels to the Venetian lagoon to visit Tessera on the occasion of the island’s being put up for sale (February 21 – Se vende isla en Venecia por 2,2 millones). The Spanish daily also proposes an itinerary “between heaven and hell” in Maradona’s Naples, on the eve of the match between the city’s team and Barcelona (February 24 – Nápoles, altar eterno de Maradona). Lastly, Der Standard covers gourmet cuisine, with the Italian recipe for the “macarons” that gained popularity during the Medici era – a recipe that France, too, has laid claim to (February 25 –  Macarons: Die Kekse der Könige).
