    Culture led the way in Italy related news in this week’s foreign press. The Financial Times wrote about Lorenzo Lotto’s new exhibition, “Portraits”, in London’s National Gallery that offers insight into the aspirations of the Middle Class during the Renaissance (November 9 – Status and anxiety: Lorenzo Lotto’s portraiture at the National Gallery*). On El País reviewed Matteo Garrone’s latest film “Dogman”(November 9 – Matteo Garrone muestra el David y Goliat de los arrabales romanos), whilst Le Monde described how Trieste-born writer Paolo Rumiz set out to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather – who had fought in the Austrian-Hungarian army – along the confines of Spain’s autonomous Galicia region (November 8 – Paolo Rumiz, «fils de la frontière»).

    Italians around the world – Two Italians who head up international institutions were interviewed featured in separate articles this week. Le Monde was with Filippo Grandi, the UNs 11th High Commissioner for Refugees (November 9 – «Pour le HCR, l’essentiel est d’aider les pays qui hébergent vraiment les réfugiés, en Afrique ou en Asie»*) whilst El País, was with Maurizio Bussolo, lead economist in the World Bank’s Chief Economist Office for Europe and Central Asia (November 11 – “Si no cambiamos, podemos llevar a una generación hacia la pobreza”).
    Then The Guardian wrote about the passing of Enzo Apicella, the designer who revolutionized the look of Italian restaurants in the UK in the 60s (November 14 – Enzo Apicella obituary).

    Food & Drink is a sector that often attracts the attention of the foreign press and Austria’s Der Standard wrote about expansionist goals of Ferrero that will be opening a Nutella Café in New York (November 14 – Nutella eröffnet Café in New York) having provided readers with a traditional fall recipe for pumpkin and hazelnut ravioli (November 13 – Herbstliche Pasta: Kürbis-Haselnuss-Ravioli in Minzbutter).
