Luxury & made in Italy – Italian-style luxury was what most interested the foreign press this week. The Sueddeutsche Zeitung published a portrait of, Marco Palmieri, CEO of Piquadro, known for its tech-design accessories “synonymous with luxury, but of the sober variety” (April 24 – Getarnter Luxus*). Then two items in the US media focused on the advent of new names in the upper echelons of Ferragamo (April 20 in Reuters – Italy’s Salvatore Ferragamo names Micaela Le Divelec general manager and the New York Times – Ferragamo Names Veteran Gucci Executive as General Manager*), whilst Bloomberg set out to take a look at the cashmere produced by Loro Piana and Brunello Cucinelli (April 19 – Why a Cashmere Sweater Can Cost $2,000 … or $30). El Pais Semanal, wrote about how made in Italy has influenced Spanish designer Lorenzo Caprile, whose own roots are in fact Italian (April 22 – Lorenzo Caprile: “El estilo es expresión de inteligencia”) but it was accessories that featured in two pieces by Reuters, one that set out Marcolin’s future objectives brought about by its agreement with LVMH (April 24 – LVMH’s eyewear venture looks to triple production) and another about the new jewelry line launched by Yoox-Net a porter (April 19 – YNAP to launch jewelry section, aims for 100 million euros in sales by 2020). The news agency also wrote about its experience when it road tested the new Lamborghini Urus, a supercar in SUV (April 26 –Test-Driving the Lamborghini Urus, a Supercar in SUV Clothing).
Tourism – Several articles of interest to tourists this week, including one in the New York Times that offered readers suggestions for 5 low-cost seaside destinations (April 23 – 5 Springtime Italian Coast Getaways for Less*) and another in El Pais that named Ferrara as one of 10 of the most “surprising” cities for a good-value break (April 26 – 10 ciudades sorprendentes para una escapada ‘low cost’ europea). It was Milan, however, that featured in an article in the Sueddeutsche Zeitung when a visit to the Furniture Fair showed that design can bring about the rediscovery of a sense of humor (April 20 – Hahaha*) and die Zeit provided its readers with a series of traditional Tuscan recipes that go well with potatoes cooked with rosemary (April 22 – Amore geht durch den Magen).
