Fashion – The final days of Milan fashion week monopolize coverage in foreign dailies: the spotlight is on Prada (Reuters, February 22 – Prada brings Milan to its feet, with a collection of bold lines and colours) and Ferragamo (Financial Times, February 25 – Salvatore Ferragamo AW18 review: Paul Andrew’s very clever debut; The New York Times, February 23 – 3 Things About Paul Andrew Before His Ferragamo Fashion Debut), and on the “spectacular runway” with which Dolce&Gabbana closed Fashion Week; a “show” that is “a declaration of love to the fashion industry” (February 25 on ReutersDolce & Gabbana opens the gates of fashion heaven in Milan show; The GuardianDolce & Gabbana’s new show is declaration of love to fashion industry). While The Washington Post and Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung cover all the news on the various runways (February 23 – Versace, Cavalli, Etro, Marras update their design DNA; February 26 – Es macht Boom in Mailand), other outlets concentrate on the economic strategies of Italian brands: The Wall Street Journal recounts how Gucci is aiming to stabilize the boom it is currently experiencing (February 25 – Gucci Seeks to Escape Fashion’s Boom-Bust), while Reuters dedicates two articles to the growth and sales strategies of Moncler, in particular on the online channel (February 27 – Italy’s Moncler expects to outshine luxury market with online push; February 26 – Italy’s Moncler sees further growth this year after 15 pct rise in 2017 sales). Financial Times also covers the transfer of ownership of the La Perla luxury brand, which has just been acquired by a German investor (February 26 – Lars Windhorst snaps up luxury fashion house La Perla).

Alongside fashion shows, some newspapers are recounting the events underway in Milan: The New York Times attends in the charity auction of “street-style star” Anna dello Russo (February 22 – Anna dello Russo, Street-Style Star, Decides to Move On), while Financial Times visits “Italiana: Italy Through the Lens of Fashion 1971-2001,” reporting how, with this exhibition, the industry capital is celebrating a “groundbreaking era” in Italian-made luxury (February 23 – What’s the drama with Italiana?).

Culture – In culture, again at Milan’s Palazzo Reale, Financial Times visits “Dürer e il Rinascimento: tra Germania e Italia,” a show dedicated to the German master’s Italian influences (February 23 – Albrecht Dürer and the influence of Italy). Liberation and Les Echos, on the other hand, review Call Me by Your Name, the “sensual and alluring” film by Luca Guadagnino (February 27 – «Call Me by Your Name», l’éphèbe papillonne; « Call Me by Your Name » : un été nommé désir). There is also coverage of Nanni Moretti and his La messa è finita, a film that, according to Le Nouvel Observateur shows “its currency” even today, more than 30 years after it was made (February 27 – Ne ratez pas : “La messe est finie”).

Lifestyle – This week, lifestyle reporting is dedicated to the luxury properties international buyers are seeking in Italy. While Financial Times recommends the purchase of Villa Guttuso, in Sardinia, “for art lovers” (February 23 – Five homes for art lovers), Les Echos visits the Pisa area, where, in the sixteenth-century villa named “Il Palagio,” Sting and his wife “have found paradise” (March 1 – Sting en Toscane). Cuisine is also covered, with Der Standard recommending a recipe for radicchio e mascarpone (February 27 – Risotto al Radicchio e Mascarpone: Einzigartig cremiger Genuss) and Die Zeit proposing spaghetti “gilded” with saffron (February 28 – Mit Safran vergoldete Pasta*).
