The month of February once again saw a good number of studies carried out by Italian researchers picked up by the major international scientific journals, with 31 articles published involving the contribution of 200 researchers across 55 national research centers.
The interview with Rino Rappuoli, Global Head of Vaccines Research at Novartis and a member of Aspen Italia’s “Italian talents abroad” group, illustrates an outstanding scientific career in biotechnology that has helped transform the Swiss multinational’s center in Siena into one of the world’s leading laboratories. Rappuoli is one of the few Italian scientists to have been elected a member of the US National Academy of Science.
Alongside the customary coverage of Italian contributions in the field of oncology (5 studies involving 61 researchers at 6 laboratories, with publications appearing in specialized journals of the Nature group, including Leukemia and Oncogene), the monitoring also brought to light items relating to Italian research efforts in the area of neurology: 6 studies involving 42 researchers at 19 centers, with related articles published in Cell Death and Disease and Scientific Reports. Also significant was the coverage of research done in the fields of genetics (5 studies conducted by 34 researchers at 8 centers) and chemistry (4 studies by 11 researchers at 4 centers).
