The men\u2019s fashion catwalk shows in Milan were the subject that most interested the US papers that wrote about <strong>Gucci\u2019s<\/strong> \u201cdecisive\u201d style choices (<em>The New York Times<\/em>, February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2019\/02\/20\/arts\/20reuters-fashion-milan.html\">Gucci Puts on Masquerade Catwalk as Milan Fashion Week Opens<\/a>*; <em>Washington Post <\/em>February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/europe\/gucci-unmasks-a-harder-more-masculine-collection\/2019\/02\/20\/e0ced66a-355d-11e9-8375-e3dcf6b68558_story.html?utm_term=.1610e92a6759\">Gucci unmasks a harder, more masculine collection<\/a>*). The <em>New York Times<\/em> also ran a piece about the return of Fendi\u2019s \u201cbaguette\u201d in which several of the label\u2019s more famous customers explained what it is that makes this handbag so unique (February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/20\/fashion\/fendi-baguette-handbag.html\">Me &amp; My Baguette<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p><em>Le Monde<\/em> ran an article about the international growth of made in Italy labels such as <strong>Misson<\/strong>i, in the fashion sector, and <strong>Cassina <\/strong>and<strong> De Padova <\/strong>in the design sector that have, with their new shops and innovative collections \u2013 managed to take Paris by storm (February 19 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-styles\/article\/2019\/02\/19\/l-italie-du-design-parade-a-paris_5425170_4497319.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=2\">&#8211; L\u2019Italie du design parade \u00e0 Paris<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Italians heading up some of the world\u2019s biggest labels in the fashion world also got a mention this week, with an interview with <strong>Riccardo Tisci<\/strong> who is Burberry\u2019s new creative director (<em>Le Monde<\/em>, February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-styles\/article\/2019\/02\/20\/riccardo-tisci-j-ai-choisi-de-montrer-une-version-plus-romantique-de-burberry_5425694_4497319.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=1\">Riccardo Tisci&nbsp;: \u00ab&nbsp;J\u2019ai choisi de montrer une version plus romantique de Burberry&nbsp;\u00bb<\/a>*) whilst Yves Saint-Laurent\u2019s CEO, <strong>Francesca Belletini<\/strong>, and her joy at the group\u2019s record sales and profits featured in another article (<em>Financial Times<\/em>, February 15 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/f8d2b7ac-2df8-11e9-8744-e7016697f225\">Francesca Bellettini \u2014 a star at Saint Laurent<\/a>*). ***<\/p>\n<p><strong>Economy<\/strong> \u2013 News of <strong>Ferrero\u2019s<\/strong> success made it into the financial pages of the foreign press this week, with an article about its revenues reaching 12 billion dollars (<em>The New York Times<\/em>, February, 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2019\/02\/20\/business\/20reuters-ferrero-results.html\">Revenue at Nutella Maker Ferrero Reaches $12 Billion After Nestle Acquisition<\/a>*) whereas it was <strong>Eni\u2019s <\/strong>record profits that featured in another article (<em>Financial Times<\/em>, February 15 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/6d986750-30f4-11e9-ba00-0251022932c8\">Record oil output powers Eni to almost double operating profit<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Another Italian group, <strong>Sia, <\/strong>and its plans to grow on an international level also got mention (<em>The New York Times<\/em>, February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2019\/02\/20\/business\/20reuters-sia-ipo-ceo.html\">Italian Payment Services Group SIA May List on Stock Market-CEO<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism, Food &amp; Wine <\/strong>\u2013<em>The New York Times Style Magazine <\/em>provided readers with suggestions as to some of the best places to relax and unwind in <strong>Milan<\/strong> (February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/20\/t-magazine\/milan-wellness.html\">T\u2019s Wellness Guide to Milan<\/a>) while <strong>Verona<\/strong> was named as one of the most attractive destinations that can be reached with a direct flight from Spain (<em>El Mundo<\/em>, February 19 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/album\/viajes\/el-baul\/2019\/02\/19\/5c5d7a7efdddffa6378b459f.html\">De Verona a Funchal: 12 destinos que estrenan vuelo directo desde Espa\u00f1a<\/a>). Another Spanish daily, <em>El Pa\u00eds, <\/em>was in <strong>Florence<\/strong> to take a look at some of the city\u2019s \u201chidden treasures\u201d, such as San Miniato al Monte and the convent of San Marco (February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elviajero.elpais.com\/elviajero\/2019\/01\/31\/actualidad\/1548928379_204788.html\">Los tesoros desconocidos de Florencia<\/a>).Then, whilst the <em>New York Times <\/em>was taking a trip to check out villas for sale in <strong>Apulia <\/strong>\u2013 a region particularly appealing for anyone looking to buy a vacation home in Italy (February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/02\/20\/realestate\/house-hunting-in-italy.html\">House Hunting in \u2026 Italy<\/a>*) the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> was in the <strong>Valtellina <\/strong>district and the hidden valley where some remarkable wines are being produced in particularly adverse conditions (February 20 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-hidden-valley-in-the-italian-alps-where-winemakers-are-working-against-nature-11550239200?mod=searchresults&amp;page=1&amp;pos=5\">The Hidden Valley in the Italian Alps Where Winemakers Are Working Against Nature<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Next up is the article in <em>Die Welt<\/em> that was in Cannero on <strong>Lake Maggiore<\/strong> in search of a land \u201cfull of the scents of the Mediterranean\u201d thanks to the extensive lemon groves there (February 21- <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welt.de\/reise\/nah\/article189043473\/Italien-Im-Fruehling-strahlen-die-Fruechte-am-Lago-Maggiore.html?wtrid=onsite.onsitesearch\">Im Fr\u00fchling strahlen die Fr\u00fcchte am Lago Maggiore<\/a>). <em>Der Standard<\/em> chose to write about a Neapolitan pasta dish \u201calla genovese\u201d that is often described as the South\u2019s answer to a Bolognese (February 17 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/derstandard.at\/2000097993374\/La-Genovese-Die-Bolognese-des-Suedens\">La Genovese: Die Bolognese des S\u00fcdens<\/a>).
