{"id":72765,"date":"2019-01-18T14:40:20","date_gmt":"2019-01-18T13:40:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspeninstitute.it\/pin\/week-january-11-16\/"},"modified":"2019-01-18T14:40:20","modified_gmt":"2019-01-18T13:40:20","slug":"week-january-11-16","status":"publish","type":"pin","link":"https:\/\/www.aspeninstitute.it\/en\/pin\/week-january-11-16\/","title":{"rendered":"The week of January 11 &#8211; 16"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Luxury &amp; Fashion<\/strong> \u2013 In a week marked by <strong>Pitti Uomo<\/strong> and various catwalk shows in Milan dedicated to men\u2019s fashion, the foreign press had much to say about luxury \u2013 Italian style. <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> turned its eye to Pitti Uomo declaring that it is \u201cthe most relevant fashion fair in the sector\u201d(January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2019\/01\/10\/estilo\/1547136708_705731.html\">El dif\u00edcil equilibrio de la moda masculina<\/a>), and then the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> wrote about the carnival that comes to Florence when \u201cmen come from around the world not to conduct business, but to be photographed in extravagant outfits\u201d(January 14 &nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/inside-the-bizarre-life-of-a-male-street-style-star-11547483804?mod=searchresults&amp;page=1&amp;pos=2\">&#8211; Inside the Bizarre Life of a Male Street-Style Star<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Other papers focused on <strong>men\u2019s fashion week in Milan <\/strong>to check out this year\u2019s collections concluding that they had an inherent \u201cfeminine touch\u201d (<em>New York Times<\/em>, January 14 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2019\/01\/14\/world\/europe\/ap-eu-milan-fashion-week-watch.html\">Milan Designers Send Signal With Feminine Touch on Menswear<\/a>*) and several noted how some of the big labels, like <strong>Zegna, Versace and Prada<\/strong> seemed to be battling it out on the catwalks. (in <em>New York Times<\/em>, January 13 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2019\/01\/13\/world\/europe\/ap-eu-milan-fashion-week-watch.html\">Prada Eyes Strong Military Silhouette, With Whimsy<\/a>*; January 14 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/01\/14\/fashion\/zegna-versace-prada-milan.html\">Milan\u2019s Titans \u2014 Zegna, Versace, Prada \u2014 Do Men\u2019s Wear Battle<\/a>*). &nbsp;However, <em>The Guardian<\/em> chose to write about the \u201csporty by urban style\u201d that characterized this year\u2019s offering from <strong>Emporio Armani<\/strong> (January 14 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/fashion\/2019\/jan\/14\/emporio-armani-caters-to-the-intrepid-urban-explorer\">Emporio Armani caters to the intrepid urban explorer<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Some of the foreign papers took the opportunity to write about other aspects of a few of the major fashion brands. The <em>Financial Times<\/em> described <strong>Versace<\/strong>\u2019s plans for the future (January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/aacc39b0-14db-11e9-a581-4ff78404524e\">Veni, vidi, Versace: Donatella\u2019s next act<\/a>*) and then it published its interview with <strong>Bulgari\u2019<\/strong>s new CEO Jean-Cristophe Baben who explained how it is traditional goldsmith techniques that will ensure that made in Italy jewelry has a future (January 14 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/fc875a2a-ef4f-11e8-89c8-d36339d835c0\">Bulgari\u2019s Roman empire refuses to be disrupted<\/a>).
