Finance for growth <\/strong>\u2013 Alliances, stock market listings, and growth strategies. Italian companies are reclaiming centre stage this week in the international media\u2019s financial coverage. While Intesa Sanpaolo<\/strong> \u2013 explains Reuters<\/em> \u2013 is still looking for allies to grow in wealth management (June 15 – Intesa CEO talking to several investors over wealth management deal<\/a>), some groups like pasta maker De Cecco<\/strong> are pondering a stock market listing (Reuters<\/em>, June 18 – Italian pasta maker appoints former Nomad Foods exec as CEO ahead of listing<\/a>). Other growth strategies involve transferring stakes to other investors; this is the case with Recordati<\/strong>, a pharmaceutical company that is in talks with the CVC fund (June 19 – CVC in talks over \u20ac3bn stake in Recordati pharma business<\/a>*); Ferragamo<\/strong> (Reuters<\/em>, June 19 – Ferragamo family holding to sell 3.5 percent in Italian luxury group<\/a>), and Missoni<\/strong>. The family famous for its colourful apparel has ceded a stake in its equity to Fondo Strategico Italiano, its aim being to raise capital so as to \u201cbecome a global player\u201d and \u201ccompete in the global fashion and luxury industry\u201d (Financial Times<\/em>, June 15 – Missoni bids for scale with stake sale<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

The week in fashion <\/strong>\u2013 Italian brands are also making fashion news. With men\u2019s Fashion Week getting under way in Milan, Les Echos<\/em> explains that \u201cfashion houses are seeking to rethink themselves economically and creatively\u201d (June 19 – Milan cherche son homme<\/a>*). Other news outlets focus on the offerings of the individual brands: from Dolce&Gabbana<\/strong>, which \u201cis aiming at a multi-generational clientele without losing the essence of the house\u201d (Les Echos<\/em>, June 18 – Fashion Week Homme Printemps-Et\u00e9 2019 : la grande famille de Dolce & Gabbana<\/a>*) to Prada<\/strong>, currently reconsidering its \u201cidea of man\u201d (Les Echos<\/em>, June 18 – Fashion Week Homme Printemps-Et\u00e9 2019 : le cas Prada<\/a>*). There is also coverage of \u201cnew concepts\u201d in clothing making their way from Italy, \u201cthe cradle of fashion\u201d to Spain: this is the case with Colmar.<\/strong> El Mundo<\/em> interviews its CEO Giulio Colombo (June 18 – Giulio Colombo, CEO de Colmar: “Nos encantar\u00eda que la Reina Letizia vistiera de nuestra firma”<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Culture<\/strong> \u2013 Plenty of cultural stories are making the news, with a number of ideas for travel to Italy: while El Pais<\/em> speaks of \u201cPompei<\/strong>\u2019s second life\u201d thanks to the finds unearthed in an as yet unexplored area of the city (June 17 – Pompeya, en busca de una segunda vida<\/a>), The Wall Street Journal<\/em> explains how La Scala<\/strong> is managing to win over audiences under 30 (June 30 – How Europe\u2019s Opera Houses Won Over Millennials<\/a>). There is also coverage of new exhibitions to see, like the National Museum of Italian Judaism and the Shoah (Museo Nazionale dell\u2019Ebraismo Italiano e della Shoah \u2013 MEIS) <\/strong>in Ferrara, with an article by The Washington Post <\/em>explaining why this space is different from other museums dedicated to the Holocaust (June 8 – In a prison that once housed Jews, a new museum devoted to Italy\u2019s Jewish experience<\/a>). The New York Times<\/em>, on the other hand, pays a visit to the Cruising Pavilon at the Venice Architecture Biennale<\/strong>, an \u201cillicit cathedral\u201d dedicated to taking on taboos with a \u201cprovocative\u201d new take on sex, while paying homage to a Mineshaft, a famous gay night spot in Manhattan (June 20 – In Venice, Center of Cruising, a Biennale Show About Hooking Up<\/a>*). \u201cRadical and provocative\u201d is also the style of set designer Romeo Castellucci<\/strong>, profiled in the French newspaper Liberation <\/em>(June 20 \u2013 Romeo Castellucci \u00e0 Corps et \u00e0 Christ<\/a>*). Lastly, in the literary world, El Pais<\/em> interviews Domenico Starnone <\/strong>on his book Lacci<\/em> (June 20 – Domenico Starnone: \u201cLos hombres tenemos cada vez m\u00e1s dificultad para relatarnos\u201d<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Cuisine <\/strong>– The focus is on Osteria Francescana<\/strong>, back at the top of international cuisine, with its recognition as the \u201cworld\u2019s best restaurant,\u201d a title it had already claimed in 2016 (June 19 and 20 Jin The New York Times <\/em>– Osteria Francescana Tops World\u2019s 50 Best Restaurant List<\/a>*; Reuters<\/em> – Italy’s Osteria Francescana scoops world’s best restaurant prize<\/a>; Bloomberg<\/em> – Osteria Francescana Is the Best Restaurant in the World, Again<\/a>; Expansion<\/em> – Osteria Francescana, mejor restaurante del mundo<\/a>; L’Orient le Jour <\/em>– L’Osteria Francescana de nouveau “meilleur restaurant du monde”<\/a>). For traditional fare, S\u00fcddeutsche Zeitung <\/em>proposes the recipe for stuffed pork shoulder (June 20 – Toskanisch eingelegte Schweineschulter<\/a>), while Der Standard <\/em>focuses on the \u201cfuturism\u201d of risotto alla caprese (19 June – Risotto Caprese: Bella Italia am Teller<\/a>).<\/p>\n
