The German financial daily, <em>Boersen Zeitung<\/em> printed details of its interview with Carlo Messina, CEO of the <strong>Intesa Sanpaolo, <\/strong>during which he spoke of the bank\u2019s future prospects and how it is determined to become the leading bank in Europe in terms of market capitalization (May 1 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boersen-zeitung.de\/index.php?li=1&amp;artid=2018083027&amp;titel=Intesa-Sanpaolo-pocht-auf-Alleingang\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intesa Sanpaolo pocht auf Alleingang<\/a>*). Meantime <em>Reuters<\/em> provided news of <strong>Enel\u2019s<\/strong> foray into Brazil and its plans to acquire a local operator (April 26 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-eletropaulo-m-a\/italys-enel-raises-takeover-bid-for-brazils-eletropaulo-to-1-54-billion-idUSKBN1HX2DK\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Enel raises takeover bid for Brazil&#8217;s Eletropaulo to $1.54 billion<\/a>), whilst another piece by the same news agency was all about the Milan based construction and building business, <strong>Salini<\/strong> and how, following its success in the American market it is now considering listing on the US Stock Exchange (April 30- <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/us-salini-impregilo-listing\/italys-salini-considers-listing-in-the-united-states-idUSKBN1I11LJ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Salini considers listing in the United States<\/a> and the very same article also appeared in the <em>New York Times<\/em> on the same day &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2018\/04\/30\/business\/30reuters-salini-impregilo-listing.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Salini Considers Listing in the United States<\/a>*). <em>Les Echos wrote about <\/em>Lavazza and its new Headquarters in Turin, describing it as one of the \u201cgreenest\u201d in the world (May 2 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/business.lesechos.fr\/directions-generales\/gouvernance\/rse\/0301583094008-chez-lavazza-le-siege-social-est-une-vitrine-de-la-rse-320661.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chez Lavazza, le si\u00e8ge social est une vitrine de la RSE<\/a>*).<strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"NormalWeb\"><strong>Culture<\/strong> was also featured this week, with&nbsp; <em>El Pais, on 1 May, <\/em>&nbsp;writing about <strong>Giordano Bruno<\/strong>, the Dominican friar, philosopher and poet, known as the \u201cthe hunter who was passionate about the truth\u201d and how he honed his skills in Naples when it was ruled by Spain (May 1 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2018\/04\/24\/ciencia\/1524571397_201096.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Giordano Bruno, cazador apasionado de la verdad<\/a>). Meantime the <em>New York Times<\/em> printed its review of the latest biography on Enzo Ferrari, written by Luca Dal Monte (April 25- <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/25\/books\/book-enzo-ferrari-car-luca-dal-monte.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018In Italy, There Was the Pope and Then There Was Enzo Ferrari\u2019<\/a>).<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"NormalWeb\"><strong>Style<\/strong> \u2013 Milan and Florence both featured in articles about Italian style that appeared in the foreign press this week. The <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> was in the Lombard capital to determine the top 5 trends to come out of the 2018 <strong>Furniture Fair <\/strong>(April 27 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/freshly-minted-in-milano-1524838965?mod=searchresults&amp;page=1&amp;pos=16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 5 Hottest Trends from Milan\u2019s 2018 Furniture Fair<\/a>*). However, <em>El Pais<\/em> had been out in the city\u2019s southern suburbs to check out the Prada Foundation\u2019s new tower, designed by Koolhass as an exhibition space (April 26 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/cultura\/2018\/04\/26\/actualidad\/1524741806_156816.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La obra que redefine el \u2018skyline\u2019 de Mil\u00e1n<\/a>), whilst its lifestyle supplement <em>Icon,<\/em> shifted the focus to Florence and <strong>Ferragamo\u2019s <\/strong>HQ of 80 years in the Palazzo Spini Feroni \u201ca 14th century jewel\u201d that acts a reminder of the motto adopted by the company\u2019s founder, Salvatore, who believed that \u201cyou have to be surrounded by beautiful things if you want to create beautiful things\u201d (May 1 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2018\/04\/27\/icon\/1524816823_438243.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As\u00ed es el fastuoso palacio en Florencia de Salvatore Ferragamo<\/a>).<strong><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"NormalWeb\"><strong>Food &amp; Wine<\/strong> was as popular a subject as ever this week and <em>El Pais Semanal<\/em> interviewed <strong>Massimo Bottura<\/strong>, the chef \u201cwho took Italy into the Champion\u2019s League of culinary art where, given that popular Italian cuisine was already number one throughout the western world, artistry and creativity are all important\u201d (April 29 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2018\/04\/23\/eps\/1524492487_946846.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massimo Bottura: Obsesiones de un cocinero<\/a>), the <em>New York Times<\/em> explored what lies behind the traditional Roman way of preparing artichokes (May 1 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/05\/01\/dining\/jewish-artichokes-rome-kosher.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Is This Artichoke Kosher? Rome Defends a Classic Jewish Dish<\/a>*) although asparagus was the main ingredient in the particularly rich frittata recipe \u2013 accompanied by some burrata cheese &#8211; featured in the same paper (April 27 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/27\/dining\/asparagus-frittata-recipe.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Deluxe Asparagus Frittata, Topped With Burrata<\/a>*). On the other hand, <em>Der Standard wrote about panna cotta, wondering if it is \u201cItaly\u2019s best loved dessert\u201d<\/em> (May 2 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/derstandard.at\/2000078933727\/Panna-Cotta-Das-beliebteste-Dessert-Italiens\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Panna Cotta: Das beliebteste Dessert Italiens?<\/a>). The <em>New York Times featured TV presenter Giada De Laurentis\u2019 suggestions on where to eat in Rome, Florence and Naples (May 1- <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/05\/01\/travel\/giada-de-laurentiis-italy-tips.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Where Giada De Laurentiis Loves to Go in Italy<\/a>*) having previously featured the Re Store in Perth, declaring it is where to sample the best \u201c Italian subs\u201d Australia has to offer (April 26 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/26\/dining\/re-store-review-australia.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Best Italian Subs \u2014 at Least in Australia<\/a>*). The same US paper also featured Italian wine in an article all about Fiano (April 26 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/04\/26\/dining\/drinks\/wine-school-assignment-fiano.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Your Next Lesson: Fiano<\/a>).
