The same paper also ran a piece on how <strong>Lavazza<\/strong> is diversifying by buying into the streaming platform, Chili (December 27 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/749143e0-ea57-11e7-8713-513b1d7ca85a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lavazza buys \u20ac25m ticket in Italian video-on-demand company<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>On the subject of Italian companies on foreign markets <em>Le Matin <\/em>wrote about the deal between <strong>Eni<\/strong>&nbsp; and Morocco\u2019s National Office of Hydrocarbons and Mines in an effort to consolidate its presence in that country (December 21 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/lematin.ma\/journal\/2017\/litalien-eni-decroche-licence-large-tarfaya\/284040.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L&#8217;italien ENI d\u00e9croche une licence au large de Tarfaya<\/a>), whilst <em>Bloomberg <\/em>described how <strong>Alfa Romeo\u2019s <\/strong>latest models have helped it succeed on the US market (January 4 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-01-04\/alfa-romeo-bets-big-on-america-and-wins\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfa Romeo Bets Big on America and Wins<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Fashion \u2013 <\/strong>The start of Pitti Uomo prompted several articles on fashion and style. Spotlight on <strong>Gucci<\/strong> following the opening of its new museum, Gucci Garden (<em>New York Times<\/em>, January 10 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/01\/10\/style\/florence-italy-david-gucci-alessandro-michele.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In Florence, the David Gets Dressed and Gucci Gets a Garden<\/a>; <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em>, January 11 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2018\/01\/10\/estilo\/1515602264_324230.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gucci, una historia de moda y arte a trav\u00e9s del tiempo<\/a>) and the restaurant Gucci Osteria, managed&nbsp; by Massimo Bottura, the patron chef of&nbsp; his own 3 star Michelin restaurant (<em>New York Times<\/em>, January 9 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2018\/01\/09\/world\/asia\/09reuters-luxury-food-gucci.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Feeding the Fashionistas: Gucci Turns to Fine Dining<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Financial Times<\/em> wrote about the 100 million Euros donated by <strong>Brunello Cucinelli<\/strong> \u2013 the \u201cking of cashmere\u201d and champion of \u201chumane capitalism\u201d \u2013 to his family\u2019s charitable foundation &nbsp;(January 10 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/5a0abc66-f620-11e7-8715-e94187b3017e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brunello Cucinelli sells \u20ac100m stake for charitable foundation<\/a>), &nbsp;<em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> ran a piece on <strong>Chiara Ferragni<\/strong> and the latest managerial style of her fashion empire (December 22 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2017\/12\/22\/estilo\/1513958328_538367.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiara Ferragni toma las riendas de su imperio<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><em>Die Welt<\/em>, on the other hand, featured an interview with goldsmith <strong>Lucia Odescalchi<\/strong> who stressed the importance of \u201cdiscreet\u201d jewelry made of \u201cunusual materials\u201d (January 1 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.welt.de\/icon\/schmuck\/article171743892\/Lucia-Odescalchi-Goldklunker-machen-nur-alt-und-gewoehnlich.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201eGoldklunker machen nur alt und gew\u00f6hnlich\u201c<\/a>). <strong>&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism<\/strong>\u2013 There was a business element to some of the articles on tourism during this period, with &nbsp;<em>Bloomberg <\/em>writing about the best hotels to stay in for those heading to Milan for fashion week (January 9 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2018-01-09\/best-new-hotels-in-milan-fifty-house-and-hotel-viu-reviews\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Best New Hotels in Milan, Reviewed<\/a>*), whilst the <em>New York Times<\/em> was in <strong>Como<\/strong>, not far away from the Lombard capital, to discover how this lake district was planning to attract a \u201cnew generation\u201d of style-loving visitors (Decemeber 28 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/12\/28\/travel\/lake-como-italy-younger-travelers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lake Como for a New Generation of Cool Kids* <\/a>). Meanwhile, <em>Les Echos<\/em> ran a piece all about the Alpine town of Bormio, to celebrate the return of the men\u2019s ski world cup (December 27 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/sport\/omnisport\/afp-00649683-ski-le-grand-retour-de-la-stelvio-2141242.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ski: le grand retour de la Stelvio<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> was a little further south with a reportage on <strong>Pienza, <\/strong>in Tuscany (January 3 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/01\/03\/travel\/pecorino-di-pienza-cheese-tuscany-italy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Going to the Source for a Sacred Italian Cheese<\/a>*) and published another article on the \u201cMADRE\u201d museum in <strong>Naples<\/strong>, where contemporary art sits side by side with artifacts from nearby Pompeii (January 3 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2018\/01\/03\/arts\/design\/pompeii-at-madre-naples.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The (Really) Old and New Meet in Naples<\/a>*). The <em>Sueddeutsche Zeitung<\/em>, wrote about the continuing appeal of Italian culture and how the country\u2019s museums attracted 50 million visitors last year (January 6 &#8211;&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/news\/kultur\/museen-mehr-als-50-millionen-besucher-in-italienischen-museen-dpa.urn-newsml-dpa-com-20090101-180106-99-524701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mehr als 50 Millionen Besucher in italienischen Museen<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> \u2013 The country\u2019s classical heritage featured on the cultural pages of Spain\u2019s <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> interviewing Professor <strong>Nuccio Ordine<\/strong>, author of&nbsp; \u201c<em>L&#8217;utilit\u00e0 dell&#8217;inutile\u201d(<\/em>the usefulness of the useless) and <em>\u201cClassici per la vita\u201d <\/em>(Classics for life) (January 7 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/cultura\/2018\/01\/07\/actualidad\/1515323900_761686.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nuccio Ordine: \u201cSi no te paras, no piensas\u201d<\/a>).
