The Guardian was another of several foreign papers also looking at Italy\u2019s summer from the point of view of its tourism economy, producing an article on bicycle tourism in <strong>Alta Badia <\/strong>&nbsp;(August 2 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/environment\/bike-blog\/2017\/aug\/02\/italian-dolomites-bike-only-days-boost-cyclotourism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Dolomites bank on &#8216;bike only&#8217; days to boost cyclotourism<\/a>), whilst the <em>New York Times Magazine<\/em> had a suggestion for \u201csomething different\u201d in its piece (August 29 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/interactive\/2017\/08\/29\/travel\/what-to-do-36-hours-in-trieste-italy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">36 Hours in Trieste, Italy<\/a>*). North eastern Italy also featured in the <em>Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> with reportage, on the ever fascinating Jesolo<strong> <\/strong>(August 22 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/reise\/italien-es-muss-schon-liege-sein-15159215-p2.html?printPagedArticle=true#pageIndex_3%23oB9gXjyKTsS8gt4s.99%23pageIndex_3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Es muss noch Liege sein<\/a>). <strong>Lake Maggiore<\/strong> featured in another German paper, (<em>Die Zeit<\/em>, September 10, &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welt.de\/reise\/nah\/article168418525\/Lass-uns-mal-wieder-an-den-Lago-Maggiore-fahren.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lass uns mal wieder an den Lago Maggiore<\/a>) while <strong>Monza <\/strong>was highlighted<strong> <\/strong>to celebrate the legend that is the Italian Gran Prix (September 1 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.handelsblatt.com\/sport\/motorsport\/grosser-preis-von-italien-der-mythos-von-monza\/20269442.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Der Mythos von Monza<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>For <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Mundo<\/em> suggested in an article the best things to see in <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Milan<\/strong> (August 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cultura\/2017\/08\/05\/5983d308268e3e36178b4583.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mil\u00e1n: barroco y cosmopolitismo &#8216;made in Italy&#8217;<\/a>), and although the <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">New York Times<\/em> weekly style magazine was also in the same city, its feature focused on architect Andrea Tognon\u2019s studio in the Bicocca district (September 5 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/09\/05\/t-magazine\/andrea-tognon-designer-architect-milan-home.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In a Desolate Corner of Milan, an Unexpected Home<\/a>&shy;). Italy\u2019s financial capital was also the subject of an article about opportunities arising from Brexit, in the UKs <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Financial Times<\/em> (September 10 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/cfb822ea-9307-11e7-a9e6-11d2f0ebb7f0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Milan back in vogue as Italy\u2019s financial capital<\/a>). The FT also printed a piece about how property prices are holding in <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Liguria,<\/strong> the Italian Riviera (September 4 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/propertylistings.ft.com\/propertynews\/italy\/5149-portfolio-ligurian-coast-italy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Portfolio: Ligurian coast, Italy<\/a>*). The <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Wall Street Journal<\/em>, started its exploration of small Italian towns in Liguria\u2019s <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Lerici (August 3 &#8211;<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/looking-for-an-incomparable-vacation-in-italy-visit-these-small-towns-1501778028\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy\u2019s Most Rewarding Small Towns\u2014and Why They Beat Rome, Florence and Venice<\/a>*) more satisfying than Rome, Florence and Venice, whilst for those unable to stay away from <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Florence<\/strong>, the same American financial paper ran a piece about where to buy what in lesser known parts of the city (August 31 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/for-the-best-souvenirs-in-florence-skip-the-ponte-vecchio-1504191595\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">For the Best Souvenirs in Florence, Skip the Ponte Vecchio<\/a><sup>*)<\/sup>. Spain\u2019s <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Expansion<\/em> was also in the Tuscan capital to talk about the newly restored Adoration of the Magi by Leonardo da Vinci now being exhibited at the <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Uffizi <\/strong>(August 31 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/directivos\/2017\/08\/31\/59a7e30d22601dc46e8b45af.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La nueva vida de &#8216;La Adoraci\u00f3n&#8217; de Leonardo en Florencia<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">New York Times<\/em> wrote about its visit to the Ferrari and Lamborghini museums in <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Emilia<\/strong> (September 4 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/09\/04\/travel\/ferrari-lamborghini-museums-italy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Among the Masters at the Ferrari and Lamborghini Museums<\/a>*), whilst <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Liberation<\/em> was at the <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Castel Gandolfo<\/strong> for the opening, for summer visitors, of the Pope\u2019s sumptuous \u201choliday home\u201d (July 28 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.liberation.fr\/sous-le-soleil-exactement\/2017\/07\/28\/castel-gandolfo-habemus-palace_1586943\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Castel Gandolfo : habemus palace<\/a>*). <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">The Guardian<\/em>, on the other hand, had something to say about Ivanka Trump\u2019s trip to <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Apulia<\/strong>, commenting that she was the latest celebrity to discover the fascination of this south eastern part of Italy (August 30 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/world\/2017\/aug\/06\/ivanka-trump-puglia-celebrity-italy-holidays\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Monopoli waits for Ivanka to seal Puglia\u2019s celebrity status<\/a>). <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">The New York Times Style Magazine<\/em> was in the same region, and ran an article all about the Apulian villa owned by Peter<strong style=\"font-style: normal;\"> Benson Miller<\/strong>, the American Art Historian and Curator (September 10 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/09\/10\/t-magazine\/peter-benson-miller-art-historian-puglia-home.html?mcubz=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Picturesque Retreat in a Tiny Town in Puglia<\/a>). ***<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Italy\u2019s economic recovery <\/strong>is well underway according to various articles that appeared in the foreign press this summer, <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Bloomberg <\/em>and the <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Financial Times<\/em> in particular, giving positive news on the improved trust experienced by businesses and consumers alike. (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Bloomberg<\/em> , August 9 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-08-09\/italy-industrial-production-jumps-pointing-to-faster-recovery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy Industrial Output Jumps, Pointing to Faster Recovery<\/a>*; <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Bloomberg<\/em>, August 16 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2017-08-16\/italian-economy-expands-boosting-optimism-on-recovery\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Economy Expands, Boosting Optimism on Recovery<\/a>*; <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Financial Times, <\/em>August 28 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/10a04273-8971-35ca-84d2-bb92ba03e256\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian economic confidence hits post-financial crisis high<\/a>*; <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Financial Times, <\/em>September 1 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/d8cf615a-e58a-3b22-9e45-f6e88ef1dd66\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy excels in \u2018summer surge\u2019 for eurozone manufacturers<\/a>*; <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Financial Times, <\/em>September 11 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/d69eb920-c7d5-38bd-9419-0c27dc2aa447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018The recovery is in place\u2019: Italian industry beats forecasts<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Fashion, luxury and lifestyle <\/strong>are all emblematic of Italian style and all continue to drive the country\u2019s economy, in part due to the internationalization underway. And, whilst the Italian Stock Exchange is attempting to come up with an appropriate \u201cindex\u201d that encompasses all of that is \u201cMade in Italy\u201d (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Reuters,<\/em> September 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/italy-stocks-index\/italy-stock-exchange-plans-made-in-italy-index-idUSL8N1LM5NI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy stock exchange plans &#8220;Made in Italy&#8221; index<\/a>), other foreign papers printed articles about Italian luxury goods. The <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">New York Times<\/em> wrote about clothes designed by <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Stefano Ricci<\/strong>, affordable by only \u201d0,001% of the world\u201d (August 10 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/08\/10\/fashion\/stefano-ricci-designer-kremlin-tom-cruise-pope-francis-nelson-mandela.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stefano Ricci, Clothier to the 0.001 Percent<\/a>*) and <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Mundo <\/em>described how Prada\u2019s MD, <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Patrizio Bertelli<\/strong> took part in the Copa de Rey Panerai regatta in Minorca, dedicated to classic boats (September 2 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/baleares\/2017\/09\/02\/59aad0e2e2704ec42b8b45ed.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Patrizio Bertelli: estilo, vela y gastronom\u00eda en Menorca<\/a>). German language papers found yet more to write about <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Mario Moretti Polegato<\/strong>, who founded Geox (with <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Handelsblatt<\/em>, August 27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.handelsblatt.com\/my\/unternehmen\/mittelstand\/familienunternehmer\/geox-chef-mario-moretti-polegato-millionen-mit-loechern\/20232772.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Millionen mit L\u00f6chern<\/a>) and <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Lavinia Biagiotti Cigna<\/strong>, Laura Biagiotti\u2019s daughter and the fashion brand\u2019s new CEO (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Der Standard <\/em>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/derstandard.at\/2000062095099\/Lavinia-uebernimmt-Ruder-des-Modehauses-Laura-Biagiotti\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lavinia \u00fcbernimmt Ruder des Modehauses Laura Biagiotti<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Italian fashion also featured in other papers. <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Liberation <\/em>wrote about the blogger and designer <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Chiara Ferragni<\/strong> and her new business model (August 16 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/next.liberation.fr\/mode\/2017\/08\/16\/chiara-ferragni-une-vie-a-faire-vitrine_1590273\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chiara Ferragni, une vie \u00e0 faire vitrine<\/a>) whilst <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Expansion<\/em> ran an article on style as expressed by the architect and designer <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Ettore Sottsass<\/strong>, and his Tahiti lamp, the iconic symbol of the Memphis Milan movement (August 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/fueradeserie\/arquitectura\/2017\/08\/11\/5988457a22601d6c0e8b4581.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tahiti de Ettore Sottsass, una l\u00e1mpara ic\u00f3nica del movimiento Memphis Milano<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>With <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Ferrari<\/strong> celebrating its 70<sup>th<\/sup> anniversary, it is little wonder that it has featured in numerous articles all talking about the \u201cprancing horse\u201d. The <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Wall Street Journal<\/em> celebrated the new Ferrari 812 Superfast that now sports the company\u2019s most powerful engine (August 17 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/ferrari-812-superfast-the-italian-icon-lives-on-1502999863\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari 812 Superfast: The Italian Icon Lives On<\/a>) whereas articles published in both <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Mundo<\/em> and <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Expansion<\/em> featured the legendary auction held in Maranello that starred models from every era (September 1 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/motor\/2017\/09\/01\/59a94a97e5fdea452e8b4595.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Una subasta &#8216;de leyenda&#8217; por los 70 a\u00f1os de Ferrari<\/a>), also mentioning its contribution to charity (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Mundo<\/em>, September 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/motor\/2017\/08\/25\/59a004b2e5fdea2d698b4657.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El \u00faltimo LaFerrari Aperta ir\u00e1 destinado para la asociaci\u00f3n Save the Children<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Other iconic cars emblematic of Italian style also attracted attention, as the <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Alfa Romeo<\/strong> 33 Stradale&nbsp; currently on exhibit in the auto manufacturer\u2019s museum in Arese (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Expansion<\/em>, August 31 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/fueradeserie\/motor\/2017\/08\/31\/59a7c66b268e3e010e8b45fa.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfa Romeo 33 Stradale celebra su 50 aniversario con una exposici\u00f3n en el Museo Storico Alfa Romeo de Arese<\/a>), and the <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Fiat<\/strong> <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">500 <\/strong>that represented the optimism that swept through Italy in the 50s and La Dolce Vita of that time (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Mundo<\/em>, August 29 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cultura\/2017\/08\/28\/59a4513b22601ddd018b460c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cinquecento; la m\u00e1quina de la &#8216;dolce vita&#8217;<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Culture<\/strong> featured regularly in the foreign press towards the end of summer. Venice attracted much attention, firstly with regards to its <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Theater Biennial (<\/strong><em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Pais,<\/em> August 8 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/cultura\/2017\/08\/05\/actualidad\/1501940526_341094.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Bienal de Venecia entra en su recta final con montajes de gran calado<\/a>) and then because of the <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Film Festival<\/strong> full of glamour and determination (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">New York Times,<\/em> August 29 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2017\/08\/29\/world\/europe\/ap-eu-venice-film-festival.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Venice Film Festival Offers Grit, Glamour and George Clooney<\/a>; <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Pais,<\/em> September 3 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/cultura\/2017\/09\/03\/actualidad\/1504443463_418178.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El talento derrota al tiempo en Venecia<\/a>). Italian cinema also featured in&nbsp; <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Liberation<\/em> in a tribute to <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Alberto Sordi <\/strong>(August 29 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/next.liberation.fr\/cinema\/2017\/08\/29\/alberto-sordi-cabotinage-d-or_1592764\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alberto Sordi, cabotinage d\u2019or<\/a>), whilst it was literature that was the focus of <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Pais<\/em> in a piece all about \u201cspaghetti\u201d crime novels and the new authors writing them (August 22 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/elpais.com\/cultura\/2017\/08\/18\/actualidad\/1503077703_458908.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El \u2018spaghetti crime\u2019 se dispara<\/a>). Italian author <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Paolo Cognetti<\/strong> featured in an article in <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Le Monde<\/em> (September 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/livres\/article\/2017\/09\/09\/paolo-cognetti-disciple-de-la-montagne_5183364_3260.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=9\">Paolo Cognetti, disciple de la montagne<\/a>*) and the ever popular <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Elena Ferranti<\/strong> \u201cone of the best authors of our time\u201d was the focus of a piece in the <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Sueddeutsche Zeitung<\/em> (September 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/kultur\/die-geschichte-der-getrennten-wege-elena-ferrante-gehoert-zu-den-besten-geschichtenerzaehlern-unserer-zeit-1.3661275\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elena Ferrante geh\u00f6rt zu den besten Geschichtenerz\u00e4hlern unserer Zeit<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Food <\/strong>\u2013 Various Italian gastronomic delights featured in an array of articles this summer. There were a few praising the success of New York\u2019s <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Eataly<\/strong> store and the quality of the products it sells, (<em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">New York Times<\/em>, August 29 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/08\/29\/nyregion\/eataly-nyc-flatiron-fruit-vegetables.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Eataly Draws Tourists, but Its Produce Lures Regulars<\/a>*; <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">El Pais<\/em>, August 9 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/economia.elpais.com\/economia\/2017\/08\/09\/actualidad\/1502295140_347849.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El \u2018gourmet\u2019 italiano en la Gran Manzana<\/a>). It was still Austria\u2019s <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Der Standard<\/em> to take a look at the origins of Tiramisu \u2013 claimed by both Veneto and Friuli (August 7 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/derstandard.at\/2000062347454\/Tiramisu-Streit-zwischen-Venetien-und-Friaul\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tiramisu-Streit zwischen Venetien und Friaul<\/a>) whilst <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">the Guardian<\/em> described the discovery of a wine dating back to truly ancient times (August 31 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/science\/2017\/aug\/30\/traces-of-6000-year-old-wine-discovered-in-sicilian-cave\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Traces of 6,000-year-old wine discovered in Sicilian cave<\/a>). Wine was also the focus of an article in the <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em>, with an interview to the winemaker <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Axel Heinz<\/strong> from the Tenuta dell\u2019Ornellaia, who declared that in Tuscany, \u201cwine is a cult\u201d (July 29 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/stil\/essen-trinken\/interview-mit-direktor-eines-toskanischen-weinguts-15120776.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Warum Wein aus der Toskana Kult ist<\/a>). <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Die Welt<\/em> featured an interview with <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Paolo Barilla<\/strong> in which he spoke about the family \u201cempire\u201d and that pasta is good for us all (August 28 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.welt.de\/wirtschaft\/article167142182\/Pasta-macht-nicht-dick-Das-uebernimmt-eher-die-Sosse.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201ePasta macht nicht dick.
