The French press focused its attention on the offer put forward by Italy\u2019s <strong>Fincantieri <\/strong>for the Saint-Nazaire shipyards: (<em>Les Echos,<\/em> January 4 &#8211; <a href=\"\/www.lesechos.fr\/industrie-services\/industrie-lourde\/0211655807672-fincantieri-cet-italien-qui-veut-reprendre-le-chantier-de-saint-nazaire-2054437.php#cJDqqqyXZ1mJdmRm.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fincantieri, cet italien qui veut reprendre le chantier de Saint-Nazaire<\/a>*; <em>Lib\u00e9ration<\/em>, January 3 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/industrie-services\/industrie-lourde\/0211655807672-fincantieri-cet-italien-qui-veut-reprendre-le-chantier-de-saint-nazaire-2054437.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Les chantiers navals STX de Saint-Nazaire sous pavillon franco-italien<\/a>). <em>Reuters<\/em> described the expectations for sustained growth in 2017 for <strong>Brunello Cucinelli<\/strong> (January 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSI6N1EI00H\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brunello Cucinelli sees double-digit profit, sales growth in 2017<\/a> and <em>Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> wrote about the <strong>Kiton<\/strong> success story (January 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/stil\/mode-design\/kiton-bietet-neben-italienischen-massanzuegen-nun-auch-frauenkleidung-14584140.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Das Ma\u00df vieler Dinge<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Several of the big names in Italy\u2019s cultural sector <\/strong>found themselves in the papers during this period, mostly from the worlds of music, literature or design. The <em>New York Times<\/em> ran a profile of <strong>Ludovico Einaudi<\/strong>, one of the most popular Italian composers being streamed today (December 30 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/30\/arts\/music\/ludovico-einaudi.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ludovico<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Einaudi, a Classical Artist for the YouTube Age<\/span>*, <strong>Elena<\/strong> <strong>Ferrante\u2019s<\/strong> latest novel was the subject of an article in the <em>Sueddeutsche Zeitung<\/em> (January 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/kultur\/italienische-literatur-die-braut-im-halbprofil-1.3322274\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elena Ferrantes<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> neues Buch: Freude am doppelten Spiel<\/span>) having already featured in another piece in <em>Le Monde <\/em>that described just how the mysterious writer was helping to fill the coffers of her French publishers (January 5 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/livres\/article\/2017\/01\/05\/elena-ferrante-le-bon-filon-de-gallimard_5057878_3260.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elena Ferrante, le bon filon de Gallimard<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>The French daily also had something to say about the linguist, <strong>Tullio De Mauro<\/strong>, who had recently passed (January 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/disparitions\/article\/2017\/01\/10\/la-mort-de-tullio-de-mauro_5060484_3382.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La mort de Tullio De Mauro<\/a>*). Meanwhile the <em>New York Times<\/em> remembered the particular style of the designer <strong>Lella Vignelli<\/strong> (December 28 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/28\/business\/lella-vignelli-death.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Lella Vignelli, a Designer With a Spare, Elegant Style, Dies at 82<\/a>) whilst it was the architect <strong>Massimiliano Locatelli<\/strong> and his work that earned space in <em>L&#8217;Orient le Jour <\/em>(January 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lorientlejour.com\/article\/1027650\/massimiliano-locatelli-talent-aiguille.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Massimiliano<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Locatelli, talent aiguille)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food &amp; Wine<\/strong> \u2013 There were many articles during the festive season on this subject too. In the US, the <em>New York Times<\/em> wrote about the \u201cpasta revolution\u201d brought about by the <strong>Pastificio Felicetti<\/strong> in Predazzo that uses only 100% Italian flour (January 3 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/03\/dining\/pasta-100-percent-italian-wheat.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pastas With a New Selling Point: They\u2019re All Italian<\/a>*) whereas it was Washington based Fabio and Maria Trabocchi and the opening of their fourth restaurant there that interested the <em>Washington Post<\/em> (December 23 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/food\/sfoglina-previewed-a-warm-and-welcome-invitation\/2016\/12\/23\/6e29727c-c15c-11e6-8422-eac61c0ef74d_story.html?utm_term=.57a2d239b5ec\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sfoglina, previewed: A warm and welcome invitation<\/a>). In Spain, readers of <em>el Mundo<\/em> learned about the arrival of \u201cgourmet pizza\u201d in Barcelona (January 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cataluna\/2017\/01\/05\/586ea988ca4741b9168b469b.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La pizza gourmet llega a BCN<\/a>) and <em>el Pa\u00eds<\/em> described how the Catalonian Library had turned into an Italian restaurant at the hands of&nbsp; the Locandiera di Goldoni (January 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/ccaa.elpais.com\/ccaa\/2017\/01\/10\/catalunya\/1484077252_360012.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Macarrones en casa de Mirandolina<\/a>). Meanwhile over in Germany the <em>Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> dedicated an article to the Italian coffee ritual and the new collection of artistic coffee cups from <strong>Illy <\/strong>(January 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/stil\/mode-design\/kaffeekonzern-illy-trifft-auf-modehaus-pucci-14552510.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Prendiamo un caff\u00e8?<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>The <em>New York Times<\/em> fascinated readers with a piece about the opportunity for prisoners to sign up for sommelier training courses in Lecce (January 3 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/03\/world\/europe\/italian-inmates-sip-smell-and-taste-their-way-to-rehabilitation.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Inmates Sip, Smell and Taste Their Way to Rehabilitation<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Style<\/strong> \u2013 Several style-based stories also peppered the holidays. The <em>New York Times<\/em> was looking ahead at what to expect during Men\u2019s Fashion week in Milan (January 12 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/01\/12\/fashion\/mens-style\/milan-mens-fashion-week-preview.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Men\u2019s Fashion Week in Milan: Who\u2019s On, and Who\u2019s Off<\/a>) whereas it was the role to be played by <strong>Dolce &amp; Gabbana<\/strong> in dressing the new First Lady that interested Spain\u2019s <em>el Pa\u00eds<\/em> (January 3 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2017\/01\/03\/estilo\/1483441146_790719.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dolce &amp; Gabbana s\u00ed viste a Melania Trump<\/a>); Austria\u2019s <em>der Standard<\/em> celebrated Christmas Day with an article on a different kind of Italian style, namely the restyling of <strong>Alfa Romeo\u2019s<\/strong> Giulietta (December 25 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/derstandard.at\/2000049790853\/Alfa-Romeo-Giulietta-Blick-nicht-Staubfaenger%C3%B9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alfa Romeo Giulietta: Blick- nicht Staubf\u00e4nger<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism <\/strong>was not overlooked either with <em>le Monde <\/em>described the city of <strong>Genoa <\/strong>and how it has thrown off its industrial past and now showcases its \u201cextraordinary architectural heritage\u201d and shows off its amazing vitality (January 4 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-voyage-le-lieu\/article\/2017\/01\/04\/quand-il-y-a-genes-y-a-du-plaisir_5057684_4497643.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Quand il y a G\u00eanes, y a du plaisir<\/a>) and then the <em>Sueddeutsche Zeitung <\/em>wrote about the \u201cmarvels\u201d of the <strong>Veneto<\/strong> region that visitors can explore within an hour\u2019s drive from Venice itself (January 11 &#8211;
