The financial sections of the international press also included stories about the interest shown in Italy by foreign investors including, for example, the purchase of the global investment company, Pioneer, by the French group, Amundi, (December 12 in the <em>Financial Times<\/em>, &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/16ce8c70-51f3-3d22-a218-325d6821bf62\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UniCredit sells Pioneer Investments to Amundi in \u20ac3.5bn deal<\/a>*; <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/unicredit-seals-4-10-billion-sale-of-asset-manager-to-amundi-1481531842\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">UniCredit Seals $4 Billion Sale of Asset Manager Pioneer to Amundi<\/a>*). Stories about the expansion of certain Italian businesses also appeared, such as the one in <em>Le Monde<\/em>, covering <strong>Ferrero\u2019s<\/strong> plans for the future following its acquisition of Delacre (December 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/economie\/article\/2016\/12\/06\/ferrero-regime-xxl_5044273_3234.html#3V9rCKHVdmWHVm51.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrero, roi de la confiserie, s\u2019attaque au rayon biscuits<\/a>*), and another, in <em>L\u2019Orient le Jour<\/em>, that described the recent agreement reached by Italy and the Lebanon aimed at strengthening investments in the green energy sector \u2013 (December 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lorientlejour.com\/article\/1023857\/litalie-veut-renforcer-sa-cooperation-avec-le-liban-en-matiere-deconomie-verte.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L\u2019Italie veut renforcer sa coop\u00e9ration avec le Liban en mati\u00e8re d\u2019\u00e9conomie verte<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> \u2013 Various news articles covering Italian culture appeared during the same time frame. Literature featured in a interview with <strong>Erri de Luca<\/strong> published in <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> (December 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/ccaa.elpais.com\/ccaa\/2016\/12\/12\/catalunya\/1481553504_109732.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Erri de Luca, un pez-piloto para el nuevo Homero que cante la tragedia del Mediterr\u00e1no<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span>, and the <em>New York<\/em> <em>Times <\/em>published a report on the runaway success of the author <strong>Elena Ferrante<\/strong> (December 4 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/07\/arts\/ferrante-fever-continues-to-spread.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Ferrante Fever\u2019 Continues to Spread<\/a>*) and the same paper published a piece on the art world in which it described Christo\u2019s \u201cThe Floating Piers\u201d on <strong>Lake Iseo<\/strong>, as being emblematic of 2016 (December 8 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/08\/opinion\/2016-as-seen-by-3-artists.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2016, as Seen by 3 Artists<\/a>*) and a second one described the documentary photography of <strong>Giuseppe Nucci<\/strong> who has spent time discovering and recording the rural traditions of Abruzzo and Molise (December 8 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/lens.blogs.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/08\/documenting-rural-italys-vanishing-traditions-giuseppe-nucci\/?_r=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Documenting Rural Italy\u2019s Vanishing Traditions<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>There was music too, with Tunisia\u2019s <em>La Presse <\/em>writing about the end of year concert tribute to Italian opera being staged at the Acropolium de Cartage di Tunisi December 15 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lapresse.tn\/14122016\/124180\/lopera-italien-a-lhonneur.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L&#8217;Op\u00e9ra italien \u00e0 l\u2019honneur<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span>. Two leading Spanish papers, <em>El Mundo<\/em> and <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> both featured articles about the recent announcement by TV entertainer <strong>Raffaella<\/strong> <strong>Carr\u00e0<\/strong> that she has decided to retire after a long career that has delighted both Italian and Spanish audiences (December 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/loc\/2016\/12\/12\/584e9a2522601da6528b4586.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Raffaella Carr\u00e1 anuncia entre l\u00e1grimas su retirada<\/a>; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2016\/12\/13\/estilo\/1481646497_782370.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El adi\u00f3s de Raffaella Carr\u00e0 que Italia no quiere creerse<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Style<\/strong> \u2013 The \u201cBel Paese\u201d continues to feature in the international press thanks to the eternal appeal of Italian fashion and style. The<em> Financial Times<\/em> published an all-round interview with <strong>Maria Grazia Chiuri<\/strong>, the first woman in 70 years to hold the coveted position of&nbsp; Dior\u2019s Creative Director (December 7 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/24450582-bc06-11e6-8b45-b8b81dd5d080\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maria Grazia Chiuri on becoming the first female head of Dior<\/a>*). The <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> ran an interview of its own with the designer <strong>Margherita Missoni Amos<\/strong> covering both her work and her life in Milan (December 10 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/designer-margherita-missoni-amos-on-the-best-of-milan-1481230687\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8211; Designer Margherita Missoni Amos on the Best of Milan<\/a>*). The very Italian albeit London-based style of <strong>Martina Mondadori<\/strong> who founded the magazine \u201cCabana\u201d that has become a true reference point on everything to do with interior design appeared in another article (<em>Les Echos<\/em>, December 7 \u2013 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/serie-limitee\/art-de-vivre\/deco-design\/0211516002168-les-obsessions-de-martina-mondadori-2048676.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Les obsessions de Martina Mondadori*) <\/a>. The goldsmith <strong>Amedeo Scognamiglio<\/strong> was the subject of a <em>New York Times <\/em>article exploring the art of making Cameos (December 5 <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/05\/fashion\/jewelry-cameos.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">&#8211; The (New) Story of Cameos<\/a>*) that followed a photo reportage on the same subject (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/slideshow\/2016\/12\/04\/style\/jewelry-cameos\/s\/05cameo02-inyt.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In an Italian workshop<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Italian style was also integral to two articles about luxury cars. One, in the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> was all about the <strong>Maserati Levante<\/strong> (December 2 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/2017-maserati-levante-review-a-luxury-suv-thats-a-bargain-1480627419\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2017 Maserati Levante Review: A Luxury SUV That\u2019s a Bargain?<\/a>*) whilst the second in <em>El Mundo<\/em> it is told about the record price \u2013 7 million dollars \u2013 achieved at auction &#8211; for a LaFerrari Coup\u00e9 \u2013 produced by the good people at <strong>Maranello<\/strong> (December 7 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/motor\/2016\/12\/05\/58454b7d268e3eee468b45b8.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Un Ferrari LaFerrari Coup\u00e9 logra el precio r\u00e9cord en subasta para un coche del siglo XXI<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food &amp; Wine<\/strong> \u2013 With the holiday season almost upon us, Italian food and wine featured heavily in the foreign press, with wines &#8211; from the Alto Adige to Sicily \u2013 mentioned in recommendations provided by several papers. The <em>Washington Post,<\/em> December 3 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/food\/3-red-wines-including-a-10-bottle-and-2-bubblies-perfect-for-your-holiday-table\/2016\/12\/03\/eb1cadda-b8c4-11e6-a677-b608fbb3aaf6_story.html?utm_term=.393bd0de5cd4\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">3 red wines (including a $10 bottle) and 2 bubblies perfect for your holiday table<\/a>; <em>Bloomberg,<\/em> December 13 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-12-13\/the-50-best-wines-under-50\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The 50 Best Wines Under $50 to Buy in 2017<\/a>; the <em>Guardian<\/em>, December 11 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2016\/dec\/11\/best-christmas-fortified-wines-port-dark-rum-marsala-beer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The best Christmas fortified wines \u2026 and more<\/a>). The <em>New York Times<\/em> was out to explore the best Lambrusco around (December 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/05\/dining\/lambrusco-wine-italy.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rediscovering the Festive Fizz of Lambrusco<\/a>*) and also, suggesting readers might like to try some innovative Italian jams (December 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/05\/dining\/italian-jams-radicchio-marmalade-annamarias-foods.html?_r=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radicchio Marmalade Leads a New Line of Italian Jams<\/a>) going on to provide a recipe for a very particular kind of chocolate cake (December 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cooking.nytimes.com\/recipes\/1018431-italian-flourless-chocolate-cake\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italian Flourless Chocolate Cake<\/a>)<em>. Bloomberg<\/em> on the other hand extolled the virtues of and international success being enjoyed by Calabria\u2019s nduja which, it said, \u201cgoes well with everything\u201d(December 13 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-12-13\/what-is-nduja-and-why-is-it-suddenly-on-every-menu\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">What Is Nduja and Why Is It Suddenly on Every Menu?<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism<\/strong> \u2013 The world\u2019s press always has something to say of interest to visitors to Italy, and during this period, the &nbsp;<em>New York Times <\/em>included a \u201cbaita\u201d in the <strong>Dolomites<\/strong> in an article about unusual and exclusive holiday accommodation (December 4 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/12\/04\/travel\/hotels-beyond-the-suite-cabins-villas-and-treehouses.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hotels Go Beyond the Suite \u2014 to Cabins, Villas and Treehouses<\/a>*), whilst the <em>Financial Times<\/em> stopped off in <strong>Ariccia<\/strong> in the Castelli Romani district (December 7 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/propertylistings.ft.com\/propertynews\/italy\/4847-a-taste-of-ariccia-castelli-romani-italy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A taste of Ariccia, Castelli Romani, Italy<\/a>*). Spain\u2019s <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> was also in Italy suggesting, readers could try out three different tours on a <strong>Venetian <\/strong>vaporetto (December 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elviajero.elpais.com\/elviajero\/2016\/12\/12\/actualidad\/1481559223_759571.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tres rutas tur\u00edsticas en transporte p\u00fablico<\/a>) and why a trip to <strong>Pompeii <\/strong>might also be of interest (December 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2016\/12\/13\/ciencia\/1481655273_279133.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Viejas ciudades ocultas que salieron a la luz<\/a>).
