As the <em>Associated Press <\/em>explains in an article run in the <em>New York Times<\/em>, it was an event for the American president to \u201chonor Italy and its leader\u201d (October 18 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2016\/10\/18\/us\/politics\/ap-us-state-dinner-italy.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Obama Uses Final State Dinner to Honor Italy and Its Leader<\/a>). This relationship of friendship between Rome and Washington was in full evidence in Barack Obama\u2019s toast, transcribed in full by the <em>Washington Post<\/em> (October 18 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/reliable-source\/wp\/2016\/10\/18\/full-transcript-president-obamas-toast-at-the-italian-state-dinner\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Full Transcript: President Obama\u2019s toast at the Italian State Dinner<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe saved the best for last,\u201d declared the American president as he welcomed prime minister Matteo Renzi and the Italian delegation. According to the<em> New York Times, <\/em>Obama \u201cwasn\u2019t joking\u201d (October 18 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2016\/10\/19\/us\/politics\/ap-us-state-dinner-italy.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Obama: &#8216;We Saved the Best for Last&#8217; at Final State Dinner<\/a>): in fact, alongside the guest list also featured in <em>Time <\/em>magazine<em> <\/em>(October 18 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/4536179\/state-dinner-italy-guest-list-2016\/?iid=sr-link1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Here\u2019s the Guest List for the Obamas\u2019 Final State Dinner<\/a>), the newspaper recounts that everything at the gala was \u201cbig or bigger,\u201d starting with the menu supervised by Italian-American chef <strong>Mario Batali<\/strong> (<em>New York Times<\/em>, October 16 &#8211; Music is also  prominently featured, with an interview with <strong>Stefano Bollani<\/strong>, the  Italian pianist who \u201cbreaks down the barriers between classical and jazz\u201d (<em>El  Pa\u00eds<\/em>, October 18 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2016\/10\/18\/actualidad\/1476813961_493837.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Stefano Bollani: \u201cEl elitismo tiene los d\u00edas contados\u201d<\/a>),   as is cinema, with a review of the \u201cItalian super-production\u201d dedicated to   the House of Medici (<em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em>, October 19 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2016\/10\/17\/television\/1476700728_465923.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Los Medici\u2019, banqueros, mecenas,   estrellas de la televisi\u00f3n<\/a>). <em>&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The Guardian <\/em>interviews <strong>Carlo Rovelli<\/strong>, \u201ca pioneer in research into quantum gravity,\u201d on the success of his book <em>Seven Brief Lessons on Physics<\/em> (October 16 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/books\/2016\/oct\/16\/carlo-rovelli-interview-quantum-gravity-physics-science-is-where-revolutions-happen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlo Rovelli: \u2018Science is where revolutions happen\u2019<\/a>). Lastly, also in publishing, <em>el Mundo<\/em> marks the arrival in Italy of the Italian publishing house Planeta which, alongside DeAgostini, is launching DA Planeta Libri (October 14 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cataluna\/2016\/10\/14\/58011a1022601d98478b456c.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El Grupo Planeta entra en Italia<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Wine &amp; food <\/strong>\u2013 A number of stories involve Italian cuisine: <em>Washington Post <\/em>proposes recipes<em> <\/em>from the restaurant Alta Strada in the United States capital (October 13 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/food\/alta-strada-invites-diners-on-a-roman-holiday\/2016\/05\/06\/ea5fd002-1220-11e6-93ae-50921721165d_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alta Strada review: Italian favorites, with a twist<\/a>), while <em>the Guardian<\/em> reviews London\u2019s Mercato Metropolitano (October 16 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/lifeandstyle\/2016\/oct\/16\/mercato-metropolitano-restaurant-review-jay-rayner\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mercato Metropolitano: restaurant review<\/a>). On the other hand \u2013 reports <em>El Mundo<\/em> \u2013 the renowned Spanish chef Ferran Adri\u00e0 is coming to Italy, chosen as the culinary consultant for the new <strong>Lavazza <\/strong>location<strong> <\/strong>in Turin (October 18 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cataluna\/2016\/10\/18\/580668c822601d184f8b468f.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferran Adri\u00e0 desembarca en Tur\u00edn<\/a>). Lastly, <em>Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung <\/em>visits Naples to recount the origins of the Italian dish \u201cmost famous all over the world\u201d: <strong>pizza<\/strong> (October 20 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.faz.net\/aktuell\/gesellschaft\/italienische-kueche-woher-kommt-eigentlich-die-pizza-13422587.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Woher kommt eigentlich die Pizza?<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism <\/strong>\u2013 Tourism is also making the news, as <em>Financial Times<\/em> recounts the \u201cmagic\u201d of <em>alberghi diffusi<\/em>, \u201cscattered hotels,\u201d in Mascognaz in <strong>Val d\u2019Aosta<\/strong> (October 14 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/ab6bd24c-9010-11e6-8df8-d3778b55a923\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">High-altitude hideaways<\/a>*) while <em>the Guardian<\/em> proposes different ways to sojourn in Italy free of charge, suggesting B&amp;Bs that barter hospitality in exchange for goods and services, from social media consulting to olive picking (October 19 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2016\/oct\/19\/visitors-to-italy-can-stay-for-free-by-sharing-skills-and-goods\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Visitors to Italy can stay for free by sharing skills and goods<\/a>). <em>Time<\/em>, on the other hand, encourages its readers to: &#8220;Stop what you\u2019re doing and start planning your next vacation&#8221;; the destination is Dora Sarchese in <strong>Abruzzo<\/strong>, where a fountain that flows with free wine has been installed (October 17 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/4533184\/wine-fountain-italy\/?iid=sr-link7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">An Italian Town Has a Miraculous Wine Fountain\u2014and It\u2019s Totally Free<\/a>).
