In memory of Dario Fo<\/strong> \u2013 Within a few hours of Dario Fo\u2019s <\/strong>passing on October 13, <\/strong>newspapers the world over dedicated a multitude of column inches to the Nobel Laureate, \u201cItaly\u2019s Harlequin\u201d (<\/strong>El Mundo<\/em> – Muere Dario Fo, ‘Arlecchino’ de Italia<\/a>), the irreverent fool who spoke out against power (El Pa\u00eds<\/em> – Muere Dario Fo, azote del poder pol\u00edtico y eclesial<\/a>; El Mundo<\/em> – \u00bfIr\u00e1 Dario Fo al cielo?<\/a>), one of the great protagonists of the Italian theater (Reuters<\/em> – Italian Nobel-winning playwright Dario Fo dies<\/a>; The Guardian <\/em>– Dario Fo, Nobel-winning playwright, dies aged 90<\/a>).<\/p>\n

 Culture<\/strong> \u2013 The Guardian<\/em> also ran a piece on Italian culture, in which it wrote about a Roman project to recreate the famous Bull of Nimrud<\/strong>, an ancient statue, destroyed in Syria, which is to be reproduced and placed on show in the Colosseum (October 6 – Bull of Nimrud destroyed by Isis to be recreated in Rome<\/a>). The Financial Times <\/em>on the other hand <\/em>wrote about the exhibition, mounted by London\u2019s M&L Fine Art dedicated to Arte Programmata<\/strong> (October 12 – Arte Programmata: Italian Kinetic Art from the 1960s \u2014 review<\/a>*).  Another exhibition, this time in Rotterdam and featuring the work of Fra Bartolomeo<\/strong>, one of the Masters of the Renaissance, featured in an article printed in the New York Times<\/em> (October 6 – Fra Bartolommeo Has His Moment<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

 Tourism<\/strong> \u2013 Two interesting articles on tourism this week \u2013 one, in Blooomberg<\/em> was all about amazing places to ski, which included Italy\u2019s Valle d\u2019Aosta<\/strong> (October 11 – Six Incredible Places to Ski This Winter<\/a>), whilst the other, appeared in The Guardian<\/em>, was actually a photo of the spectacular \u201cBarcolana\u201d regatta in Trieste<\/strong> (October 9 – Eyewitness: Trieste, Italy<\/a>).<\/p>\n

 Economy <\/strong>\u2013 The most interesting news about the Italian economy this week came about the increase in Italy\u2019s industrial production in August (Bloomberg<\/em>, October 10 – Italian Output Unexpectedly Rises in Boost For Growth Outlook<\/a>). Whereas the New York<\/em> Times<\/em> ran an interview with Jean-Christophe Babin, the new CEO for Bulgari <\/strong>in which he talked about his plans for the brand (October 9 – Bulgari\u2019s Chief: Make Your Targets Clear<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

 Lifestyle<\/strong> \u2013 Italian lifestyle made an appearance this week in a piece about the great Italian Chef, Niko Romito<\/strong>, enemy of anything superfluous (el Pa\u00eds,<\/em> October 7 – Niko Romito, la contracultura culinaria<\/a>); the New York Times<\/em> had a fun piece about the different words used for \u201cwater melon\u201d across the Bel Paese, as well as different ways to serve it (October 7 – You Say \u2018Anguria,\u2019 I Say \u2018Cocomero\u2019: Italy\u2019s Many Dialects<\/a>*). FIAT, and specifically the all new Fiat 124 Abarth, <\/strong>was the subject of an article wrapped in the nostalgia of its competition (el Mundo,<\/em> October 11 – Copa Fiat 124 Abarth: regreso al pasado<\/a>).<\/p>\n
