Not only with the improvement in the manufacturing index in September providing hope that the economy is picking up (<em>Financial Times,<\/em> October 3 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/bbc3a22a-33d2-3c4e-8ce1-a837c6cb93b7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy\u2019s manufacturing sector recovers in Sept \u2013 Markit<\/a>*), the foreign press was also interested in <strong>Novamont<\/strong>, located close to Rovigo, which is sinking some 100 million Euros in the world\u2019s first plastics manufacturing plant to run on natural resources (<em>Washington Post<\/em>, September 29 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/world\/europe\/italys-novamont-invests-100m-euros-in-biochemical-plant\/2016\/09\/29\/3905606c-864f-11e6-b57d-dd49277af02f_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy\u2019s Novamont invests $112 million in biochemical plant<\/a>). There is a piece on <strong>Moleskine<\/strong>, the Italian \u201cplanner \u201cthat has proved betting on paper even in today\u2019s digital world is a good bet with high profit margins (<em>Wall Street Journal<\/em>, September 29 &#8211;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/moleskine-turns-paper-into-big-profit-for-private-equity-owner-1475137583\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Moleskine Turns Paper Into Big Profit for Private-Equity Owner<\/a>*) and <strong>Fila<\/strong> that is also doing well following its recent purchase of the historic French paper production company deemed \u201cthe most prestigious in the world\u201d (<em>Les Echos<\/em>, October 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/industrie-services\/conso-distribution\/0211362638934-le-papetier-ardechois-canson-passe-sous-pavillon-italien-2032874.php?AqcJs4GUT7wQd2GF.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Les papiers Canson passent sous pavillon italien<\/a>). Italian fashion label, <strong>Curiel, <\/strong>also got a mention in an article about its expansion into Asia thanks to new Chinese investor Zhao Yinzheng (<em>Wall Street<\/em> <em>Journal,<\/em> September 29 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/chinese-investor-has-plans-for-italys-curiel-1475176248\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chinese Investor Has Plans for Italy\u2019s Curiel<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Fashion also featured in <em>Les Echos<\/em> in a piece focusing on <strong>Carlo Alberto Beretta<\/strong>, the Italian recently appointed as Kering\u2019s Marketing and Client Manager (October 4 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/journal20161004\/lec2_carnet\/0211353445608-kering-carlo-alberto-beretta-2032285.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">KERING : Carlo Alberto Beretta<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>Combining the economy and style,<strong> Ferrari<\/strong> warranted two mentions this week as the Maranello based company prepares to celebrate the 70 years since it was founded (<em>El Mundo,<\/em> September 30 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/motor\/2016\/09\/30\/57ee4477268e3e79748b4684.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari: un homenaje de aniversario para los mejores de su historia<\/a>) whilst the group\u2019s upper echelon had explained to <em>Reuters<\/em> that the company was continuing to perform well on all markets (September 29 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSL8N1C51FA\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari exec says company doing very well<\/a>). Italy\u2019s major auto makers also shared center stage with catwalk shows and opportunities to taste Italian food and wine during the festivities that marked the 100 year presence of the Italian Chamber of Commerce in Morocco (<em>l&#8217;Economiste,<\/em> October 4 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.leconomiste.com\/article\/1003129-la-chambre-de-commerce-italienne-fete-ses-100-ans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Chambre de commerce italienne f\u00eate ses 100 ans<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> \u2013The cultural pages of the <em>Financial Times<\/em> ran an interview with director <strong>Paolo Sorrentino<\/strong> exploring his move from the big to the small screen (September 30 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/cms\/s\/0\/a6955bfe-83d5-11e6-a29c-6e7d9515ad15.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paolo Sorrentino: the anti-storyteller<\/a>*) with \u201cYoung Pope\u201d, a co-produced TV series set to revolutionize traditional Italian TV news (<em>Wall Street Journal,<\/em> October 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-young-pope-breaks-italian-tv-traditions-1475680191\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018The Young Pope\u2019 Breaks Italian TV Traditions<\/a>). It was the work of <strong>Riccardo Muti<\/strong> at the Chicago Symphony, however, that was explored by the <em>New York Times<\/em> (October 2 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/03\/arts\/music\/riccardo-muti-indulging-a-passion-for-overlooked-italian-composers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riccardo Muti, Indu<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">l<\/span>ging a Passion for Overlooked Italian Composers<\/a>*) whilst <strong>Artemisia Gentileschi<\/strong>, the woman artist from the Caravaggio school caught the eye of <em>the Guardian<\/em> (October 5 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/artanddesign\/2016\/oct\/05\/artemisia-gentileshi-painter-beyond-caravaggio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">More savage than Caravaggio: the woman who took revenge in oil<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food &amp; Wine<\/strong> \u2013 <em>Bloomberg<\/em> was in <strong>Piedmon<\/strong>t this week, exploring the region it declared was less well known than Tuscany but had even more to offer in terms of its wines and culinary delights (September 30 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-09-30\/why-piemonte-tuscany-s-lovely-stepsister-is-the-perfect-wine-trip-right-now\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Why Piemonte, Tuscany&#8217;s Lovely Stepsister, Is the Perfect Wine Trip Right Now<\/a>). The New<em> York Times<\/em> ran a write-up on Brad Thomas Parsons\u2019 recent book about the tradition of Italian digestif that has just hit the shelves in the US (October 4 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/10\/05\/dining\/amaro-liqueur-brad-thomas-parsons-book.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">That\u2019s Amaro: One Man\u2019s Love Affair With Bitter Liqueurs<\/a>).
