{"id":72449,"date":"2016-10-04T15:19:29","date_gmt":"2016-10-04T13:19:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.aspeninstitute.it\/pin\/week-september-23-29\/"},"modified":"2016-10-04T15:19:29","modified_gmt":"2016-10-04T13:19:29","slug":"week-september-23-29","status":"publish","type":"pin","link":"https:\/\/www.aspeninstitute.it\/en\/pin\/week-september-23-29\/","title":{"rendered":"The week of September 23 \u2013 29"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Fashion<\/strong> \u2013 Milan Fashion Week means that the Lombard capital has attracted the attention of the world\u2019s press this week. <em>Le Monde<\/em> celebrated the \u201creturn\u201d of the big Italian names (September 26 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/fashion-week\/article\/2016\/09\/26\/la-fashion-week-signe-le-retour-des-grandes-maisons-italiennes_5003704_1824875.html#X6ZUgrvYKmUKmuTK.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Fashion Week signe le retour des grandes maisons italiennes<\/a>*), whilst <em>el Pais<\/em> explained how those big names can lay claim to a type of \u201cslow fashion\u201d \u2013 thanks to artisans in the sector and their singular way of interpreting quality (September 23 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2016\/09\/23\/estilo\/1474651811_728562.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mil\u00e1n no tiene prisa<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span>. The foreign papers have also had something to say on the current strategies of individual labels, including <strong>Gucci<\/strong> and <strong>Prada<\/strong> (<em>El Pais, <\/em>September 23 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/epv.elpais.com\/epv\/2016\/09\/23\/categoria_actualidad\/1474610506_647928.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El fest\u00edn de Gucci y Prada<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span> and <strong>Fendi<\/strong> (<em>New York Times, <\/em>September 22 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/09\/23\/fashion\/in-the-studio-with-silvia-fendi.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In the Studio With Silvia Fendi<\/a>). <strong>Dolce &amp; Gabbana\u2019s <\/strong>\u201cTropico italiano\u201d collection, which takes a new look at the aesthetic codes of Southern Italy, was the subject of several articles. (<em>Les Echos<\/em>, September 26 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/week-end\/mode-et-beaute\/defiles\/0211328896658-fashion-week-femme-printemps-ete-2017-dolce-gabbana-carte-postale-italienne-2030288.php?cIugIQTMX6YYqlWd.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fashion Week Femme Printemps-Et\u00e9 2017 : Dolce &amp; Gabbana, carte postale italienne<\/a>*; <em>Financial Times, <\/em>September 25 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/9289f2be-8326-11e6-a29c-6e7d9515ad15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dolce &amp; Gabbana SS17 show report: Milan Fashion Week<\/a>*; <em>The Guardian, <\/em>September 25 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/fashion\/2016\/sep\/25\/dolce-gabbana-makes-tilt-generation-z-money-anyway\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Dolce &amp; Gabbana makes a tilt at Generation Z<\/a>. Young talents in the sector also got a mention, with the <em>Washington Post <\/em>saying that theirs was \u201cthe last word\u201d on Milan\u2019s Fashion Week (September 26 &#8211;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/business\/youth-has-final-word-as-milan-fashion-week-wraps-up\/2016\/09\/26\/d1733a20-8412-11e6-b57d-dd49277af02f_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Youth has final word as Milan Fashion Week wraps up<\/a>). The <em>New York<\/em> <em>Times <\/em>was on the fringe of the shows to talk about a charity event organized by fashion world to raise funds for the fight against AIDS (September 25 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/09\/26\/fashion\/milan-fashion-week-amfar.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In Milan, Fashion Turns Out to Support amfAR<\/a>*) whilst the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> underlined its view that it is the social network strategies of the big names rather than the collections themselves that were the real stars of the week (September 28 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/at-milan-fashion-week-clothes-werent-the-stars-1475085577\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">At Milan Fashion Week, Clothes Weren\u2019t the Stars<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Big shots of the economic world <\/strong><em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Expansion<\/em> ran an interview with <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Luca Parasacco<\/strong>, CEO of Spain\u2019s FCA, who was happy to talk about a year of spectacular commercial success (September 26 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.expansion.com\/empresas\/motor\/2016\/09\/26\/57e95f8622601dff658b4634.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Luca Parasacco: &#8220;Se va consolidando el concepto de pagar por uso, no por propiedad&#8221;<\/a>), whilst the <em style=\"font-weight: normal;\">Financial Times<\/em> dedicated a piece to <strong style=\"font-style: normal;\">Paolo Vitelli<\/strong>, &#8220;the man who rescued Azimut Benetti\u2019s yachts (September 28 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/4293b658-6a05-11e6-a0b1-d87a9fea034f#axzz4LXM42ZI1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Paolo Vitelli: the clubbable businessman who rescued Benetti<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Food, wine &amp; tourism <\/strong>\u2013 Several articles this week in which these sectors were intertwined. The <em>Financial Times<\/em> was back in the <strong>Cinque Terre<\/strong> to explain how new safeguards may well attract new investments in the area (September 23 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/1ecb6a10-7a8e-11e6-ae24-f193b105145e\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy\u2019s Cinque Terre: will a limit on visitors boost home prices?<\/a>), other pieces focused on Rome with <em>Liberation<\/em> talking about dining at the Glass Hostaria where chef Cristina Bowerman is wowing the nation\u2019s capital (September 23 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/next.liberation.fr\/food\/2016\/09\/23\/cristina-bowerman-l-anti-trattoria_1507799\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cristina Bowerman, l\u2019anti trattoria<\/a>), whilst <em>El Pais<\/em> explained that the pizzerias of the Eternal City are a particular weakness of Spanish writer Maxim Huerta (September 23 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elviajero.elpais.com\/elviajero\/2016\/09\/22\/actualidad\/1474547883_416539.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pizza de masa fina en Roma<\/a>). Pizzas continued to feature with <em>El Pais<\/em> taking a look at the best pizzerias in <strong>Naples<\/strong> (September 24 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elpais.com\/elpais\/2016\/09\/24\/gastronotas_de_capel\/1474726942_509784.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Las mejores pizzas napolitanas<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span> and the <em>Financial Times<\/em> was also talking about Pizza, but this time in London, where the city\u2019s pizzerias are going back to basics (September 23 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ft.com\/content\/25d7fb08-7f83-11e6-bc52-0c7211ef3198\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">London pizzerias \u2014 not a pineapple in sight<\/a>*).<\/p>\n<p>The German press were all over Tuscany this week, with <em>Sueddeutsche Zeitung<\/em> writing about traditional and innovative winemaking in <strong>Chianti <\/strong>(September 26 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/news\/wirtschaft\/getraenke-italiens-lieblingswein-sucht-neues-image-dpa.urn-newsml-dpa-com-20090101-160926-99-589835\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italiens Lieblingswein sucht neues Image<\/a>) and in a feature article on <strong>Garfagnana<\/strong> that set out how this particular wine district is attempting to relaunch its wine production thanks to innovative ideas introduced by local residents <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sueddeutsche.de\/reise\/italien-das-experiment-1.3182416\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Das Experiment<\/a>).
