And, whilst the banking sector is struggling to reorganize itself, the news coming out of the industrial sector is encouraging, not least because the Italian market is in recovery mode. That is certainly true for <strong>Campari<\/strong>, that now makes a quarter of its sales on its local market and having exceeded the expectations of analysts featured (<em>Reuters, <\/em>May 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/campari-q-idUSI6N18200X\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Campari Q1 organic sales beat expectations with 7.2 pct rise<\/a>; <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> reports that part of the growth shown by the alcoholic beverage group can be attributed to its acquisition of various well-known global brands (May 7 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/economia.elpais.com\/economia\/2016\/05\/05\/actualidad\/1462441801_252409.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Campari ensaya el c\u00f3ctel global<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">)<\/span>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Reuters<\/em> wrote that <strong>Moncler<\/strong> has also achieved positive results thanks to its success on international markets (May 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/moncler-results-idUSI6N18201M\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Moncler Q1 sales rise more than expected<\/a>) whilst in another article it described how the <strong>Furla<\/strong> group &#8211; with its \u201caccessible luxury items\u201d \u2013 is not only planning to open new shops in London, Melbourne and Shangai, but is also likely to go public next year (May 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSI6N0WS019\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Furla expected to list in 2017<\/a>). Meantime, Italy\u2019s <strong>Alberto Zamperla<\/strong>, the man behind the world\u2019s leading manufacturer of pleasure rides and responsible for creating amusement parks from North Korea to Guatemala, featured in a long profile piece in the <em>Financial Times <\/em>(May 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/208e7ccc-0def-11e6-b41f-0beb7e589515.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alberto Zamperla, builder of roller coasters and thrill rides<\/a><sup>*)<\/sup>.<\/p>\n<p>With regards to the recovery of the domestic market, <em>Reuters<\/em> also reported on how <strong>Poste<\/strong> is benefitting from the sales of insurance products in Italy (May 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/poste-italiane-q-idUSL5N18779P\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poste Italiane beats Q1 forecasts thanks to capital gains, insurance products<\/a>). On the same time <em>Bloomberg<\/em> featured the 35% increase in <strong>Enel\u2019<\/strong>s profits, thanks to its domestic sales (May 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-05-10\/enel-jumps-most-in-two-months-on-boost-from-italian-retail-unit\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Enel Jumps Most in Two Months on Boost From Italian Retail Unit<\/a>), whilst it was the recovery of Italy\u2019s advertising market that had boosted <strong>Mediaset\u2019s<\/strong> bottom-line (<em>Bloomberg<\/em>, May 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-05-10\/mediaset-first-quarter-revenue-rises-as-italian-ad-sales-recover\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mediaset First-Quarter Revenue Rises as Italian Ad Sales Recover<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Various articles in several papers also focused on current interest in the Italian market \u2013 and its potential for recovery \u2013 as confirmed by the foreign investments being made. <em>Cinco D\u00edas<\/em> reported on the Spanish group, <strong>Abertis<\/strong> that has just paid 594 million Euros for the stretch of the A4 toll road that runs from Brescia to Padua \u2013 known as the \u201cSerenissima\u201d \u2013 along with the inter-connecting A31 toll road (May 10 <a href=\"http:\/\/cincodias.com\/cincodias\/2016\/05\/10\/empresas\/1462861275_401595.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Abertis compra por 594 millones dos autopistas en Italia<\/a>). <em>Bloomberg<\/em> also ran with that same story (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2016-05-10\/abertis-to-buy-italian-highways-for-677-million-in-growth-drive\">Abertis to Buy Italian Highways For $677 Million in Growth Drive<\/a>). The Foreign capital is also attracting Italian football, with Fininvest negotiating the sale of AC Milan to Chinese investors (<em>Financial Times<\/em>, May 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/fastft\/2016\/05\/10\/berlusconi-in-talks-to-sell-ac-milan-stake-to-chinese-investors\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berlusconi in talks to sell AC Milan stake to Chinese investors<\/a>*; <em>Washington Post<\/em>, May 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/news\/2016\/may\/10\/berlusconi-dealing-with-chinese-investors-for-ac-m\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Berlusconi dealing with Chinese investors for AC Milan sale<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art &amp; Culture <\/strong>\u2013 Italian art featured in a piece describing the <strong>\u201cManiera\u201d<\/strong> exhibition in Frankfurt\u2019s St\u00e4del Museum, dedicated to 16th century Florentine painters (<em>Le Monde<\/em>, May 7 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/culture\/article\/2016\/05\/07\/l-art-florentin-de-l-outrance_4915288_3246.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=17\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L\u2019art florentin de l\u2019outrance<\/a>). Two days later, <em>El Pa\u00eds <\/em>reported on the record price achieved at auction by <strong>Maurizio Cattelan\u2019s<\/strong> \u201cHitler\u201d, which it described as an \u201cextremely powerful and disturbing\u201d sculpture (May 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2016\/05\/09\/actualidad\/1462797502_879042.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Un \u2018Hitler\u2019 de Cattelan, una irreverencia vendida por 15 millones<\/a>). As to the Italian cultural scene, it is <strong>Riccardo<\/strong> <strong>Muti\u2019s <\/strong>return to La Scala that was of interest to <em>El Mundo<\/em> (May 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/cultura\/2016\/05\/11\/57336c95e5fdeab2558b457d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Riccardo Muti volver\u00e1 a dirigir en La Scala 12 a\u00f1os despu\u00e9s<\/a>) and to the <em>New York Times <\/em>(May 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/aponline\/2016\/05\/11\/world\/europe\/ap-eu-italy-la-scala-muti.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maestro Muti to Return to La Scala After Nearly 12 Years<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism<\/strong> \u2013 With summer on its way, tourist destinations and attractions are popular subjects, often linked to some gastronomic delight, as in the \u201cpostcard\u201d from Sardinia \u201csent\u201d by the <em>Financial Times <\/em>to its readers (May 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/4ef18032-1128-11e6-839f-2922947098f0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Postcard from&#8230;Sardinia<\/a>*), and in the guide to the joys of <strong>Bologna <\/strong>featured in <em>El Pa\u00eds,<\/em> which begins with an aperitif sipped in the company of Neptune (May 10 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elviajero.elpais.com\/elviajero\/2016\/05\/06\/actualidad\/1462547718_179077.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Un aperitivo junto a Neptuno en Bolonia<\/a>). Then, <em>The Guardian<\/em> wrote about its visit to the Pizzeria Pepe in Grani, in Caiazzo, some 30 miles north of Naples, wondering (May 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2016\/may\/11\/best-pizza-in-the-world-camapania-naples-italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Is this the best pizza in the world?<\/a>).&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>While <em>The New York Times<\/em> was in the <strong>Langhe<\/strong> district of Piedmont, explaining that Barbera is a wine for \u201cspecial occasions\u201d (May 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/11\/dining\/wine-school-assignment-barbera.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Your Next Lesson: Langhe Barbera<\/a>*), <em>the<\/em> <em>Guardian<\/em> ran a piece on <strong>Tuscany<\/strong> writing about interesting places to visit besides the usual destinations of Florence, Siena and San Gimignano (May 5 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2016\/may\/05\/tuscany-holidays-readers-italy-travel-tips\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Holidays in Tuscany: readers\u2019 travel tips<\/a>) which linked in with another piece inspired by a particular &#8211; and hilly &#8211; leg of this year\u2019s <strong>Giro d\u2019Italia<\/strong>, suggesting readers might like to explore the <strong>Chianti <\/strong>district by bike (May 7 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.theguardian.com\/travel\/2016\/may\/07\/giro-ditalia-bicycle-race-chianti-tuscany-italy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A classic cycle ride in Italy&#8217;s Chianti country<\/a>). This classic bicycle race \u201calways magnificent, even during the more difficult stretches\u201d, spawned two more articles, the first in <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> (May 8 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/deportes.elpais.com\/deportes\/2016\/05\/08\/actualidad\/1462702231_175837.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El Giro, qu\u00e9 gran horror<\/a>) and the second, in <em>El Mundo<\/em> (May 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/album\/deportes\/2016\/05\/09\/5730a89b468aeba3538b464d.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El recorrido del Giro 2016, etapa a etapa<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>More traditional tourist destinations were not overlooked either. <em>El Pa\u00eds<\/em> recommended a trip south of the Alps, with spectacular views guaranteed, from the Borromean Islands of <strong>Lake<\/strong> <strong>Maggiore<\/strong> to the elegance of Lake <strong>Como<\/strong> and three more lakes besides (May 12<em> <\/em>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/elviajero.elpais.com\/elviajero\/2016\/05\/10\/actualidad\/1462914135_359908.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los cinco lagos m\u00e1s bonitos de Italia<\/a>). <em>Le Monde<\/em> suggested spending a weekend in <strong>Rome<\/strong> that also includes spending the Sunday on the beach at Anzio (May 11 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-voyage-le-lieu\/article\/2016\/05\/11\/week-end-a-rome-un-dimanche-a-la-plage-d-anzio_4917518_4497643.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Week-end \u00e0 Rome : un dimanche \u00e0 la plage d\u2019Anzio<\/a>). For the <em>Washington Post<\/em>, on the other hand, the recommendation was all about staying in one of the luxury hotels linked to some of the big names in fashion (May 5 &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/travel\/fashion-designers-are-extending-their-talents-and-brands-to-hotels\/2016\/05\/05\/da488e7c-0733-11e6-b283-e79d81c63c1b_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fashion designers are extending their talents (and brands) to hotels<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lifestyle<\/strong> \u2013 Italian design also got a mention this week. The <em>New York Times<\/em> spent time at <strong>Milan\u2019s<\/strong> <strong>Triennale<\/strong>, taking in the jewelry exhibition entitled &#8220;Brilliant! the future of Italian jewelry\u201d (May 12 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2016\/05\/12\/fashion\/jewelry-triennale-design-museum-milan.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Triennale Revival Puts Jewelry in the Spotlight<\/a>), but it was pop culture that featured in an article in <em>Le Monde<\/em> about singers \u2013 from the days of Lucio Battisti to the present &#8211; who have played in Italy\u2019s other National football team, the &#8220;Nazionale cantanti&#8221;, (May 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/culture\/visuel\/2016\/05\/09\/l-autre-equipe-d-italie-de-lucio-battisti-au-festival-mi-ami_4916138_3246.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">L&#8217;autre \u00e9quipe d&#8217;Italie<\/a>).
