Cars <\/strong>\u2013 The international business press has cars in its headlights. First up is Ferrari<\/strong>, which posted a record first quarter, raising its earnings forecast for the year (Bloomberg<\/em>, May 2 – Ferrari Raises 2016 Forecast as Sports Car Sales Help Profit<\/a>); the carmaker also announced it has appointed Sergio Marchionne<\/strong> as CEO (The Wall Street Journal<\/em>, May 2 – Ferrari Names Sergio Marchionne as CEO<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

The Italian\/Canadian executive is also the focus of other articles: New York Times<\/em> reports his words on the future of Alfa Romeo<\/strong> in China (May 2 – Fiat Chrysler CEO Sees Future for Alfa Romeo in China<\/a>*), while Reuters<\/em> stresses the agreements between the FCA Group and Google on the self-driving car (April 29 – Google, Fiat Chrysler working on self-driving car deal: sources<\/a>).<\/p>\n

There is also coverage of the history of the Fiat Group\u2019s brands, with Handelsblatt <\/em>paying homage to one of the symbols of Italian carmaking: the Alfa Romeo Spider (May 4 – Pizza di Pininfarina<\/a>)<\/p>\n

Motorized transport of the nautical kind is covered in Les Echos<\/em>, which reports that the Ferretti<\/strong> yacht group is back in the black (April 28 – Luxe-Le constructeur de yachts Ferretti renoue avec les profits<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

King Claudio <\/strong>\u2013 The week\u2019s biggest newsmakers certainly include Claudio Ranieri<\/strong>, the Italian coach who became a football \u201chero\u201d (The Washington Post<\/em>, May 3 – \u2018King Claudio\u2019: Ranieri hailed as a hero at home in Italy<\/a>) by leading Leicester to victory in the English Premier League (Financial Times<\/em>, April 30 – Claudio Ranieri: The Tinkerman poised to win at last<\/a>*). This achievement is all the more satisfying (L’Orient le Jour,<\/em> May 5 – Claudio Ranieri, ou la revanche du “loser sympa”<\/a>) for having been attained, as The Guardian<\/em> explains, thanks to \u201cunorthodox training methods\u201d and strong principles (April 29 – Claudio Ranieri: a gentle and principled man on the verge of immortality<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Culture<\/strong> \u2013 In its cultural coverage, Financial Times<\/em> reviews the book by author Catherine Fletcher on the \u201cspectacular life\u201d of Alessandro de’ Medici<\/strong>, the \u201cBlack Prince of Florence\u201d (April 29 – \u2018The Black Prince of Florence: The Spectacular Life and Treacherous World of Alessandro de\u2019 Medici\u2019, by Catherine Fletcher<\/a>*). El Pa\u00eds<\/em>, on the other hand, reports on They Call Me Jeeg Robot<\/strong>, the surprise Italian hit fresh from its victory of seven David di Donatello awards (May 2 – El ladronzuelo con superpoderes que arrasa en Italia<\/a>). Also in cinema, die Welt<\/em> pays homage to producer and director Luca Guadagnino<\/strong>, whose works \u201cemanate a great beauty\u201d (May 4 – Der Fremde mit dem gro\u00dfen Drang zur Freiheit<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Tourism <\/strong>\u2013 Numerous articles regard tourism. Milan<\/strong> takes centre stage in El Pa\u00eds<\/em> which, in its El Viajero<\/em> feature, pays a visit to the Prada Foundation and the other buildings symbolizing the transformation of a city that is an “important laboratory of architectural experimentation” (April 29 – Un edificio de pan de oro en Mil\u00e1n<\/a>). El Mundo <\/em>also comes to Lombardy\u2019s capital for a wide-ranging interview \u2013 from art to fashion \u2013 of Miuccia Prada<\/strong> (May 1 – La moda seg\u00fan Miuccia Prada<\/a>). The Spanish daily also reports on the Vatican Library<\/strong>, one of the “world\u2019s most important literary collections,” restored with the contribution of the Spaniard \u00c1ngela N\u00fa\u00f1ez Gait\u00e1n (May 3 – La c\u00e1mara de las maravillas<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Franfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em>, on the other hand, pays a visit to the Venetian Lagoon<\/strong>, recommending locations that can compete with the charm of the City of the Doges (May 2 – Mach einen Bogen um Venedig<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Reuters<\/em> also covers tourism, albeit from the economic standpoint, reporting on the purchase of a majority stake in Valtur by the Italian private equity group Investindustrial <\/strong>(April 28 – Italy’s Investindustrial buys majority stake in holiday group Valtur<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Wine & Food <\/strong>\u2013 Cuisine also claims the spotlight. El Pa\u00eds<\/em> makes the rounds of the restaurants in Naples<\/strong>, “one of Europe\u2019s most attractive destinations,” on the eve of pizza\u2019s recognition by UNESCO (May 2 – Oda a la pizza napolitana<\/a>), while Financial Times<\/em> explains that it is time to “take advantage of Italian wines,” which are currently among the best values (April 29 – Italian renaissance<\/a>). The<\/em> Guardian<\/em>, on the other hand, in its “A Kitchen in Rome” feature, offers new recipes for pasta with ricotta and \u201cmisticanza<\/em>\u201d (May 3 – Rachel Roddy\u2019s new-season greens with ricotta pasta recipe<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The foreign press also includes coverage of Italian cuisine, with El Mundo<\/em> recommending Madrid\u2019s best Italian restaurants (May 1 – Cuaderno Matoses: los mejores restaurantes italianos de Madrid<\/a>) and The New York Times<\/em> reviewing the cooking lessons offered at the New York showroom of the Umbrian truffle company Urbani<\/strong> (May 2 – At Urbani\u2019s Truffle Lab, Classes and Cooking Lessons<\/a>*). Lastly, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> recounts the success of the pizzeria Millelire<\/strong> in Frankfurt, which hosts working lunches of the European Central Bank (April 30 – Arancini und Pizza<\/a>)<\/p>\n
