Economy<\/strong> \u2013 Italian finance and industry are making news in the foreign business press. Reuters<\/em> focuses on new listings, as the bourse is joined by Technogym<\/strong>s (Reuters<\/em>, April 27 – Italy’s Technogym IPO order book covered in range 3.25-3.35 euros – note<\/a>) and the banking sector IT firm SIA<\/strong> (Reuters<\/em>, April 27 – Italy’s SIA targets IPO in the autumn – CEO<\/a>). The<\/em> Washington Post<\/em>, on the other hand, reports on Alitalia<\/strong>\u2019s interest in purchasing 49% of Air Malta (April 27 – Italian carrier Alitalia considers Air Malta purchase<\/a>).<\/p>\n

For industry, French newspapers are reliving 70 years of \u201ca true Italian legend\u201d \u2013 Vespa<\/strong>, the very symbol of Italian-made quality (Le Monde<\/em>, April 22 – La Vespa, 70 ans d\u2019amour \u00e0 l\u2019italienne<\/a>; Les Echos<\/em>, April 26 – \u00c7a se passe en Europe : la mythique Vespa f\u00eate ses 70 ans<\/a>*).<\/p>\n

Culture<\/strong> \u2013 For cultural news, Reuters<\/em> reports on a new archaeological find that could \u201cunravel\u201d the enigmas of Etruscan civilization (April 25 – Etruscan stone could help unravel enigma of one of Italy’s first civilizations<\/a>), while El Pa\u00eds<\/em> devotes its reporting to literature, with an interview of author Claudio Magris<\/strong> on the occasion of the presentation of his latest book in Barcelona (April 21 – Claudio Magris: \u201cVivimos en un totalitarismo \u2018soft\u2019\u201d<\/a>). The Spanish daily also interviews another Italian, philosopher Giorgio Agamben,<\/strong> who explains how \u201cphilosophy is always politics\u201d (April 21- Giorgio Agamben: \u201cEl ciudadano es para el Estado un terrorista virtual\u201d<\/a>). The Moroccan paper L’Economiste<\/em> covers art, recounting the artistic output of Nicola Salvatore (April 22 – Nicola Salvatore, l’amoureux de la baleine<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The spotlight is also on Sicilian culture with the exhibition \u201cSicily: Culture and Conquest\u201d that the British Museum has dedicated to the true \u201ctreasure island,\u201d as reported by The Observer<\/em> (April 24 – Sicily: Culture and Conquest review \u2013 the original treasure island<\/a>) and El Pa\u00eds<\/em> (April 24 – Sicilia, la isla de las esencias multiculturales<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Tourism <\/strong>\u2013 Tourism has seen broad coverage, with many reports concentrated between Tuscany and Southern Italy. The New York Times<\/em> proposes 36 hours in the \u201cuntrammelled charm\u201d of the Amalfi Coast (April 22 – 36 Hours on the Amalfi Coast<\/a>*) and visits Salerno for the inauguration of \u201cstarchitect\u201d Zaha Hadid\u2019s first posthumous project (April 26 – Zaha Hadid\u2019s First Posthumous Project Is Inaugurated in Salerno<\/a>). Staying in Campania<\/strong>, die Welt<\/em> reports on growers\u2019 \u201cbrilliant ideas\u201d aimed at boosting lemon sales in the world (April 23 – Mit diesen Ideen will Italien Zitronen-Macht werden<\/a>), while the<\/em> Washington Post <\/em>visits Puglia<\/strong> to discover the wealth of food and architecture in Italy\u2019s \u201cheel\u201d (April 21 – Italy\u2019s overlooked \u2018heel\u2019 has a wealth of food, wine and unique architecture<\/a>).<\/p>\n

Staying with Italian culinary tradition, the Guardian<\/em> reports on \u201caglione\u201d<\/em>, a giant garlic originally from Tuscany that promises to provide a milder flavour for some traditional dishes (April 25 – Italian entrepreneurs hope diners will get their teeth into ‘kissing garlic’<\/a>). Also in Tuscany,<\/strong> the Wall Street Journal<\/em>, in its pages devoted to luxury real estate, recommends buying a villa in Forte dei Marmi (April 25 – A Seaside Villa in Tuscany<\/a>*), while Financial Times<\/em> covers the history and properties of scagliola, in a workshop held in Florence (April 22 – The rock that\u2019s not: why scagliola is better than marble<\/a>*). Lastly, Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung<\/em> visits Rome<\/strong> <\/strong>to see a restored Colosseum that has returned \u201calmost to what it once was\u201d (April 26 – “Fast wie in der Antike”<\/a>).<\/p>\n
