On November 29, the <em>Financial Times<\/em> had news on <strong>Intesa Sanpaolo<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/next.ft.com\/content\/585a516a-968c-11e5-95c7-d47aa298f769\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Intesa Sanpaolo to open private bank branch in London<\/a>* , having reported, just two days previously that Rome and Teheran are counting on their shared history to bring economic benefits to both in the future &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/next.ft.com\/content\/2f025a52-9429-11e5-b190-291e94b77c8f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy hopes to utilize historic Iran ties with trade mission<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p>Stories on foreign investments mostly involved luxury brands. On December 1, for example, the <em>New York Times<\/em> reported that Clessidra\u2019s acquisition of a 90% stake in <strong>Cavalli<\/strong> was indicative of the considerable interest private equity funds continue to have in Italian fashion &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/12\/02\/fashion\/cavalli-investment-shows-private-equity-has-not-lost-interest-in-fashion.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Cavalli Investment Seems to Show Private Equity Still Interested in Fashion<\/a>*. Meantime, a piece in <em>Les <\/em>Echos on November 30 explained that determined to maintain the value of items carrying a made in Italy label, the <strong>Altagamma <\/strong>Foundation has launched a training scheme aimed at producing a skilled workforce &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/industrie-services\/mode-luxe\/021516676228-le-luxe-italien-veut-preserver-son-savoir-faire-1179935.php?SjYZGrp1j5UvzMfF.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Le luxe italien veut pr\u00e9server son savoir-faire<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Culture<\/strong> \u2013&nbsp; One of several articles in the foreign press covering cultural news this week was the review, published on November 29 in the <em>New York Times<\/em> on <strong>Paolo Giordano\u2019s<\/strong> latest book , &#8220;The Black and the Silver&#8221; &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/30\/books\/review-in-paolo-giordanos-like-family-the-nanny-departs-and-cracks-emerge.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Review: In Paolo Giordano\u2019s \u2018Like Family,\u2019 the Nanny Departs and Cracks Emerge<\/a>, It was an Italian film, <strong>Nanni Moretti\u2019s<\/strong> \u201cMia Madre\u201d, released in French cinemas on December 2 that featured in the French press, with a piece in <em>Le Monde<\/em> on November27 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-le-mag\/article\/2015\/11\/27\/nanni-moretti-l-ami-italien_4818939_4500055.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nanni Moretti, l\u2019ami italien<\/a>*, and another, on December 1, in <em>Liberation<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/next.liberation.fr\/cinema\/2015\/12\/01\/mia-madre-perdue-de-vie_1417532\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u00abMia Madre\u00bb perdue de vie<\/a>. Italian cinema also featured in the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> with an article, on December 2, on the work of director and screenwriter, <strong>Antonio Pietrangel<\/strong>i &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/antonio-pietrangeli-a-retrospective-review-1449092819\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Antonio Pietrangeli: A Retrospective\u2019 Review<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p>The purity of language, a long term concern in France, featured in a piece in <em>Le Monde<\/em> on November 30, focusing this time, however, on the language of Dante and the petition started by <strong>Accademia della Crusca<\/strong> #dilloinitaliano to put an end to the proliferation of English words and expressions corrupting the Italian language &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-actu\/article\/2015\/11\/30\/anglicismes-l-italie-dit-basta-cosi_4820721_4497186.html#E4tRQmTt8V3pYzp3.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anglicismes: l\u2019Italie dit \u201cBasta cosi !\u201d<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Lifestyle<\/strong> \u2013 The continuing interest in the Italian way of life resulted in more articles on the subject this week, with the magazine produced by <em>Le Monde<\/em> describing, on December 2, how <strong>Ferrari<\/strong> is currently creating a stir both on the financial markets and at classic car rallies &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-styles\/article\/2015\/12\/02\/ferrari-affole-les-encheres_4821934_4497319.html?xtmc=italie&amp;xtcr=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ferrari affole les ench\u00e8res<\/a>*<\/p>\n<p>On the same day, the <em>New York Times<\/em>, on the other hand, chose to write about the growing passion in America for a very traditional Italian liqueur -\u201cthat tastes of Christmas\u201d &#8211; which has led to it now being produced by a distillery in Washington &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/12\/02\/dining\/nocino-walnut-liqueur.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Nocino, an Italian Walnut Liqueur, Is Also Made in America<\/a>*. Meantime, on November 30, the <em>Washington Post<\/em> took readers on a photographic journey to <strong>Tuscany <\/strong>with pictures of a villa once owned by Michelangelo now on sale.
