So said the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> on November 6 in a piece entitled &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/italys-economy-turning-the-corner-1446805699\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy\u2019s Economy: Turning the Corner<\/a>*, in which it reported on the positive figures shown in the last few weeks; the \u201cbest in Europe\u201d it said. On the same day, <em>Bloomberg Businessweek<\/em>&nbsp; &nbsp;expressed the same opinion, based on a statement by the Bank of Italy declaring that more credit would be available next year &#8211; &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-11-06\/italy-s-lending-to-rise-in-2016-amid-recovery-central-bank-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italy&#8217;s Lending to Rise in 2016 Amid Recovery, Central Bank Says<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>As foreign businesses \u2013 such as Ageas, the Belgian Insurance company \u2013 are starting to look with interest at what is happening on the Italian market, as reported by <em>Reuters <\/em>on November 6 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/11\/06\/ageas-outlook-idUSL8N13131220151106#LEw2FOre6AA5diMd.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Belgian insurer Ageas mulls options for 2.5 bln euros cash pile-CEO<\/a>, the foreign press have also been writing about how Italian groups are performing at the moment, with <strong>Poste Italiane,<\/strong> for example, practically doubling in the first nine months of the year, also reported by <em>Reuters<\/em>, but on November 9 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/2015\/11\/09\/poste-italiane-results-idUSI6N12R01Z20151109\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poste Italiane says 9-mth net profit nearly doubles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Art<\/strong> \u2013 The art world has given the press much to report on this week. On November 5, the <em>New<\/em> <em>York Times<\/em> ran a piece on <strong>Carlo Crivelli,<\/strong> a little known 15th century Venetian painter &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2015\/11\/06\/arts\/design\/carlo-crivelli-an-overlooked-renaissance-master-in-boston.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Carlo<\/a><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Crivelli, an Overlooked Renaissance Master, in Boston<\/span>, whilst on November 9, the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> chose to focus on another great Italian artist, <strong>Giorgio Morandi<\/strong>, this time from the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century, and an exhibition in New York dedicated to his work &#8211; &nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/giorgio-morandi-review-still-lifes-that-find-the-sublime-1447107116\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u2018Giorgio Morandi\u2019 Review: Still Lifes That Find the Sublime<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p>On November 6, the <em>Financial Times,<\/em> on the other hand, wrote a more general piece about Italian art and how it has been attracting great interest in recent auctions in both New York and&nbsp; London &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/5dd233ba-8183-11e5-a01c-8650859a4767.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Art Market: Italians in NYC<\/a>*, a fact confirmed in a follow-up piece it published 3 days later reporting on the price just paid for a <strong>Modigliani<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ft.com\/intl\/cms\/s\/0\/f3946616-8773-11e5-90de-f44762bf9896.html#slide0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Chinese billionaire buys Modigliani nude for $170m at Christie\u2019s<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Art, in the guise of one of Italy\u2019s most important art galleries, the <strong>Galleria Continua<\/strong>, celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, featured in the November 8 edition of <em>Liberation<\/em> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/next.liberation.fr\/arts\/2015\/11\/08\/galleria-continua-gotha-a-la-creme_1412094%20\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Galleria Continua, gotha \u00e0 la cr\u00e8me<\/a>, and the next day, the <em>Wall Street Journal<\/em> dedicated an article to the work of <strong>Dom Quartuccio,<\/strong> photographs providing a revealing insight into New York\u2019s Italian community, on show at the Italian American Museum right there in the Big Apple &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/little-italys-revered-photographer-1447104937\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Little Italy\u2019s Revered Photographer<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leading Lights<\/strong> \u2013 On November 9, <em>Les Echos<\/em>, published a profile of <strong>Andrea Munari<\/strong>, the BNLs new CEO and member of the Executive Board of the bank\u2019s parent company, BNP-Paribas &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lesechos.fr\/journal20151109\/lec2_financeetmarches\/021460600505-un-italien-au-profil-international-a-la-tete-de-bnl-1173449.php?2GsfYz1tQ6BUjpKg.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Un Italien au profil international \u00e0 la t\u00eate de BNL<\/a>. A few days later, on November 12, <em>Die Welt <\/em>chose instead to feature the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, <strong>Filippo Grandi &#8211; <\/strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.zeit.de\/politik\/ausland\/2015-11\/grandi-un-fluechtlingskommissar\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Italiener Grandi wird neuer UN-Fl\u00fcchtlingskommissar<\/a>. Meantime in Spain, <em>El Mundo<\/em> dedicated an article, published on November 7, to the communicative charm of <strong>Lapo Elkann<\/strong> &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/loc\/2015\/11\/07\/563cfaa9e2704e376a8b45e5.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">El encanto del hombre canalla<\/a> along with another piece on the same day that focused instead on Italian music, featuring an in-depth interview with popular singer <strong>Laura Pausini <\/strong>&#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.elmundo.es\/yodona\/2015\/11\/07\/563b7f5022601dbc418b45f0.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Laura Pausini, la voz que no calla<\/a>. &nbsp;On November 9, one of Spain\u2019s other papers, <em>El<\/em> <em>Pais, <\/em>wrote about the phenomenon that is <strong>Elena Ferrante<\/strong>, the pen name used by a highly successful novelist whose true identity remains unknown &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/cultura.elpais.com\/cultura\/2015\/11\/05\/babelia\/1446727025_558899.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Elena Ferrante: \u201cEscribir es una apropiaci\u00f3n indebida\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Tourism &amp; lifestyle<\/strong> \u2013 Tourism, along with aspects of Italian lifestyle also warranted a mention this week, with the <em>Washington Post<\/em> explaining, on November 9, that <strong>Milan <\/strong>and New York have got together to promote travel to both cities &#8211; <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/travel\/nyc-milan-announce-tourism-partnership\/2015\/11\/09\/1a088c5e-86ee-11e5-bd91-d385b244482f_story.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NYC, Milan announce tourism partnership<\/a>. Meantime on November 6, the <em>New York Times<\/em>, wrote about the search for eternal life going on in one of the towns on <strong>Lake Garda\u2019s<\/strong> breathtaking shoreline &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/reuters\/2015\/11\/06\/world\/europe\/06reuters-travel-limone.html?_r=0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Limone Sul Garda: Where to Find the Secret to a Long Life?<\/a>* Tourists, albeit of a very particular kind, also made the press, with an article published by <em>Bloomberg Business<\/em> on November 9 about those who head for Fiorano in order to indulge in lessons on how to drive a Ferrari &#8211;&nbsp; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-11-09\/luxury-auto-driving-schools-lamborghini-ferrari-lotus-porsche\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Six Tricked-Out Driving Schools for Luxury Auto Nuts<\/a>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>As to lifestyle, &nbsp;<em>M, Le magazine du Monde<\/em> ran a piece on November 6 that described how, in the 1950s,&nbsp; <strong>Piaggio<\/strong>\u2019s Vespa 400 economy car was introduced specifically to compete with Fiat\u2019s 500 &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lemonde.fr\/m-voiture\/article\/2015\/11\/06\/vespa-400-la-plus-francaise-des-petites-italiennes_4804443_4497789.html#OdXitRexSLrWJC2c.99\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Vespa 400, la plus fran\u00e7aise des petites italiennes<\/a>*.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*Article available for pay\/with registration<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Economy<\/strong> \u2013 Italy\u2019s economy is on the up.
